I forget what the recommended duration (because I ignore it) with my new Suby is but every time I change my oil at 3K it looks pretty dark. Given having an “enthusiastic” driver putting on that many miles in 6Mo in ND is working the car pretty hard, but I can’t imagine letting my oil go 5K+. Maybe it's not damaging the engine, but the oil has definitely lost some of its properties. I’ve been running Mobil 1 full synth all 16K, and until recently Fram filters. I’ve recently seen the light and picked up some OEM’s for the last few changes. And I can factually state that the oil has been in a noticeably better condition in the last few oil changes, and lifter noise/suby tick are less pronounced. I had the RS in for a bad O2 sensor and the dealer’s wrench noticed things like the oem filter and how a few other things I’ve done to the car were done in a mechanically-intelligent non-cheap-ass-hack fashion and in return was very respectful and helpful. He was more than willing to talk tech and help me out because there wasn’t a Grease Monkey sticker or large amounts of electrical tape on my foglights to disgust him. I wired the fog’s into the parking lights, which should send out the warranty Nazis, but he saw that it was done in a professional manner and actually complemented me on it. So the moral of the story is don’t be a cheap ass, don’t do any half assed wrenching on your car, and don’t do those things every 3000mi. Sorry for the rant, that got longer than I intended.

My oil is black almost as soon as the car's driven away from the driveway I change the oil in. I hold redline around on ramps and hold low gear (Engine has no balls) when held behind slugs waiting for a chance to pass and redline therough 3rd gear every time I get on the highway. I also live in the metro Boston area so the car sees plenty of traffic. The old engine also pulled me over 120 several times and I saw 133 once, yet even with my long change intervals, the inside of the engine was mint. I used to change every 5-7500k, but got progressively lazy and settled to 10k+ by around 180k miles. It's your money, but businesses are out to take it from you and overly conservative oil change schedules is just another way to do that.

My oil gets changed around 2.5K because for some reason it turns to into a black water like substance. No water in the oil....just really thin.

It's not shitty. Just calling it "the high mileage shit".

Shit is a substitute for "oil". Just like Smurf.
