There are more plugs, but almost the same number of wires. What do you mean by "I mean the wire colours?"
If you patched the EJ22T ECU into where the EJ18 ECU now sits, you'd only need to add a handful of wires afterwards. I'm not saying that's the way you should go; I'm just offering it as a possibility.

My understanding the wire colours are not the same for the pinouts for different model years.vrg3 wrote:There are more plugs, but almost the same number of wires. What do you mean by "I mean the wire colours?"

I think the point he was making was that it's not just the engine harness -- it's actually a good chunk of the entire vehicle's wiring harness -- so you have to make sure your guy pulls all the relevant wiring.

vrg3 Makes it seem at best I only add 10 new wires and i'm done... I know it's not that easy.Natoe wrote:yeah your going to want to do a full on swap to a legacy ECU running the engine. i didnt do that and drove it for 1000 miles but kinda regret it, now im starting to swap over to the way i should have done it in the first place.

There isn't non-engine stuff running to the ECU, but the wires that run to the ECU are in the same harness as the wires that run to a lot of other stuff.
Well, no, you have to splice about 70 wires and then add 10.

If you plan things out well, it's possible to do it in one weekend.
You haven't said which approach you're going to take... if you're patching the EJ22T ECU in you certainly will need at least your stock ECU pinouts. You'll also want to search through some of my old posts about this type of swap, because there are a few things that are done differently.

Okay, finally you say which approach you want to do.
I don't know. You'll probably have to do a little bit of splicing to get the EJ22T harness to hook up to your existing body harness. Probably not too much though.

looking at the pin outs now the EJ18 ECU has 3 Connections the Legacy ECU has 4, so I know one wire so far has to be spliced which is the Speed Sensor from my Car I don't see anything from the Legacy ECU about a speed sensor.
Having said that It seems I have a California FWD model Subaru as I have wires in the spots for the CA model.

i finally got pinouts of both the leg turbo ecu and the 95 impreza ecu, and what im going to try is to use my 1.8 engine harness and put the different connectors from the legacy on if i need to, then find where each wire corresponds to what pin on the 1.8ECU, splice it into the legacy ECU connector and plug into the legacy ECU, and do that for everything, then ill have to run some extra wires for the boost control stuff. i think this should work.
ok i was kinda confusing... so im going to take my 1.8 engine harness that is already there, SPLICE on connectors from the Legacy engine harness so i can plug into all of the correct legacy engine sensors, that way all the wires signals are brought back through the firewall to where the 1.8 ECU is (by the way of the stock 1.8 wiring). then i will CUT the 1.8 ECU connectors off, label what all of the wires are though, then SPLICE them onto the legacy ECU connectors so i can plug into the Legacy ECU. there will be exceptions of some things that i will have to take care of, as well as i will need to run NEW wires to the boost sensors thing (pull them out of the legacy harness i have) and hook them up in the engine.
i hope that makes a little more sense... ask me if you have questions, and tell me if im going to be doing something wrong haha.

For most stuff his will be unnecessary; the connectors are the same. Exceptions might include the TPS and pressure sensor. Use the cam and crank position sensors from the EJ18.SPLICE on connectors from the Legacy engine harness so i can plug into all of the correct legacy engine sensors
