Well, I guess it pays to ask the proper question...or to have an empathy cannon on hand. :)

I've had "Zone" moments. I've also had "OMFG why couldn't I have gotten a Zone moment!?" moments.

One was going uphill. There was an S-turn. I had two people in the back seat and me driving. I got through half the S-turn, but as I turned to start the second half, the front broke traction and went forward. I don't even remember putting any input into the car. There's no ABS on my model... and yet I managed to stop the car before I ate rockface. There was maybe four feet between me and the rocks for me to stop. I drove home just fine... but I was pretty messed up once I was home and had a chance to think about it.

Then there's my two moments where I wish I had that "one-ness" feeling. One being where I took a sweeping left in the winter, braked lightly and hit a snowbank on the outside but kept going. Then the other being when my rear broke traction, I countered, the rear swung the other way towards a field... and the rest is history.

Maybe I'm just too young. And haven't driven enough to be forced to make emergency maneuvers to avoid other people. And don't have serious highways around.

And BAC5.2, I totally know what you mean about the insurance thing. About how no amount of money would replace the love you've got for your car. I'm the same way.

I haven't had anything exciting happen to me while driving in a long long time. I haven't had any close calls on city streets in years. I get about 100 miles of mtn roads in a week, but i haven't had a 10/10ths experience in as long as i can remember. Maybe im charmed.

Same can't be said when im a passenger though. Just about every time i go ride with someone else, someone tries to merge in to them or they spin out on some little road.

It's wierd.

In Orlando its tough to take a drive anywhere and not encounter morons with licenses, merging into you and blatantly flying through stop signs and red lights into your path. I try to stick to back roads when I can, and stay the hell away from as many other vehicles as I can.

What happened to the open road?
