yes it does fit quite well in there.

there is no way to not modify by cutting at least one thing in order to fit a front mount in a legacy. unless of course you do it like chris. i can fit an intercooler up to 12 inches tall under the bumper cover and still have clearence.

Oh, I had to cut. My friend and I spent quite a bit of time with a Sawzall on the bumper before that IC fit. I also had to cut and bend the sheet metal around the radiator to allow the inlet and outlet to pass into the engine compartment without changing size. Fun with sharp metal!

Word. Another nice FMIC setup. Yours is all shiny, neat!

I especially like the duct tape coffee muggification.

I'll have to take a photo of mine now that the grille has been altered to fit. I was barely able to keep enough material on there to preserve the emblem mount. It looks unique.

lol, the duct tape is long gone, replaced with baling wire and the pipes are no longer shiny since i haven't cleaned my engine bay during the winter. Took me a long time to install that front mount though.

Thanks, I bought 2.5 inch stainless steel exhaust piping off of ebay and a few bends to make it work. I don't like to pay a lot of money for stuff.

That's going to be one of the advantages to my new location; perfect preservation of my Subarus. No further rust in that dry state. Also, any new toys I pick up in the area will likely be rust-free. Kickass.

I don't know what they use on the roads when it snows here but my car doesn't have any rust. Just stained in a few places from the mountain dirt road i live on, like on the bumper.

I'll have my front mount next friday. Don't know HOW i'm gonna squeeze it behind the bumper, but I'll find a way, I'm sure.

...so let it be written, so let it be done.

That looks pretty much exactly like mine, except with different endtanks. You can fit it.

I'm going to go grab a photo of my dirty front fascia.

OK - Just took some new photos. Keep in mind I haven't washed this thing in months, life's been too nuts. But anyway:

This last one is the space between the IC and the radiator. The plate you see at the bottom of the IC is the bottom of the bumper; the top has been cut out.

The words "Tokyo Radiator" are misleading; that is in fact an intercooler, or at least it's being used as one.

For those looking for 350 hp or less this one works awesome. The entire unit is exposed to direct air because it fits perfectly in the bumper openning on the legacy sport sedan. I'm not guessing, I've measured. ;)
Image

2.5" Inlet/Outlet
26.75" Wide (this is at its widest including inlet/outlet)
Core Width is 18"
6.25" Tall
3.5" Deep

I know I have a shop, but I'm not trying to sell anything. I just want to help. Most intercoolers this size have inlet/outlets that are too small, or you find ones that are taller than necessary and half the core doesn't get direct flow. Direct flow isn't absolutely necessary, but if direct flow over the whole thing is an option that's great.

Word. That's nice to know there's a FMIC that fits the pre-existing cavity without having to cut the bumper.

I'll have speed holes in the front sometime soon. I'll probably remove the front fascia to make them.... or will I? (yes)

Lots of great info here.

Thanks for all your replies.

Unfortunately, I'll have to wait on my FMIC setup. I am currently jobless and just got a speeding ticket, which cuts into the parts fund........

I may go reverse manifold when I do my motor. Try to cut down on piping and improve packaging.

Mike - That does seem like a great option for those not looking to make ridiculous power. Bigger does provide the nice benefit of having additional thermal mass, but intercoolers as big as Chris', Nico's and the one I'm picking up aren't for the faint of heart.

Yup it's not for everyone, but if you're using a VF turbo or a 16g it's perfect and that covers pretty much everyone on here at this point. I've seen 350whp on pump gas with this intercooler so it has great cooling capacity in a small package.

The one I use supports around 750 hp and still fits very nicely. It's wide so it uses the width of the stock bumper openning, and only 3" of the height doesn't get direct airflow.

Nice. The setup I've got has been dyno proven to be capable of 700whp, so I'm not too worried.

Hey---It's stopped raining and I've been able to get all the measurements on the fmic.

Core is 24 inches X 6 X 3

Tanks add 2.5 on to each end, and the upper plate and a half is shadowed by that bumper beam. :-)
Subtle (normally aspirated engines suck):
05 Legacy GT Wagon with Cobb chip.
62 Alfa Romeo Spider- had a 1.6 L with 80 hp, now 2 L with 160 torque. Curb weight 2050 lbs.
93 Leg Twgn fmic, vf34, etc. ((sold))
