we don't have required hours of instruction by parents. But I definitely got way more than I needed to pass any state's requirements. I would estimate that I drove 5000 miles when I had my temps...yeah, got a lot of experience under my belt immediately.
And my mom started calling my "inexperienced" as soon as I got my liscence (she never said that before) like I forgot everything!
(obviously 5k isn't a whole lot, but it's like she totally ignored all the learning I'd been doing from my dad my whole life...)
Parents aren't a great way to go for teaching honestly. I see just as many (if not more) stupid moves from middle agers as I do from people my age.
We had 12 hours required, 6 driving, 6 observation, while taking driver's ed. As well as 30 hours of classroom time.
I'd rather we got to do more driving, and didn't just learn the rules, but learn how to drive the damn cars. Do powerslides, learn how to control in ice, etc. But no, that's never the emphasis, it's to teach to drive to the driver's test, not to the real world
