Thanks all, the old 1.8 will be pulled tonight and I'll be documenting with pictures to post up here of my process. Might even do a writeup. Looks easy enough though. ~nervous~ Wish me luck!
PS: I picked up this 93 1.8 awd 5 speed impreza for $1500 here in CA, where GC8's are becoming harder and harder to find. I think anything more then that is paying to much, especially if it's fwd.

My Gawd! A 2 hour job for someone who hasn't done it before is amazing! I'd have to give it up to Subaru for making these engines and engine bays well designed! In contracts to the 4g63t engines anyway (oh the horror!). I would do a thorough writeup, but it really is that easy! I think I'd recommend this car as a beginner mechanic car with how everything is so easily accesable! Here are pics from the engine pull, and tomorrow goes in the wrx crossmember and the beginning of the writeup. ~Excited~

Don't know how close any of you guys are to Sacramento, but I almost bought a fwd 93 Imp for $400 lol. Was in a bit of a wreck in the front, but no engine damage and it drove fine.
Engine turned ok with good/high compression numbers on a cold motor, so it's going well so far. I gotta figure out if I have to tap a new O2 bung on the wrx downpipe before the cat, or just use the stock location after the cat. Almost done rewiring a few things, and still haven't found a place for the wrx coolant filler. I'm sure someone on here has used the metal cooler and relocated it so I guess I'll just search.

I appreciate the idea, but I try to avoid zip ties as much as possible. I did look in that area though, and I'll be making custom brackets next to the airbox, where the abs would normally go. So there's plenty of room. Thanks~

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
Thanks. Yeah that Blitz bov had a filter on it, very strange BUT it does keep the PSHH to a low whisper. Goes well with the very quiet EVO2 exhaust.
I wish I had the time to paint the bay when the engine was out, but I didn't, especially with how I'd expect it to be done. It's ok, I hopefully won't need to be popping the hood much to the public.
No, rallysam, I'm using the stock 1.8 ecu until I can get LINK+. So it'll be closedloop, no WOT until then lol.

FINALLY fixed my poor drivability issues, thanks to everyone here. I can start tuning and looking for more parts again, yay! I'd like to first start tuning the car with below-stock boost levels and work my way up until I get the dohc and turbo upgrade. What does the Legacy ej22t noramlly boost stock? 6psi?

Ah, the craigslist Impreza. Iw onder if it's still available. What needed to be replaced?
Also, do yourself a favor and get it inspected at the BAR station, dunno if you came to a conclusion about this or not. The last thing you want after doing this is to get into some legal situation and have the car impounded, or lose it all together. I don't know to what extent they can prosecute you for not doing this legally, but I know an impound is pretty much standard.

I'm on First and First. How can the same street intersect with itself? I must be at the nexus of the universe.
I went to go look at that fwd Impreza and it's in pretty bad shape. It will probably need to be sent to a frame puller, as the sides of the firewall are bent unevenly from each other. And because of this, I think it's still for sale. Engine and drivetrain seem pretty solid though.
I still have to do some research on the BAR swap requirements, because some people say "yes", you can legally have a 1994 Legacy engine in a 1993 Impreza, others say "no", you can't, only because it is from a different model Subaru. Hopefully I find out more soon.
