Changing oil is more fun when you don't need to raise the car. I do it that way because I can, there's plenty of room.
No boobs here either, and my bumper is probably dirtier for it.

when I did my trans swap I had the rear wheels up on several 2' pieces of 2x10 but jackstands on the front. ghetto but effective and I felt very safe.

I was almost killed last summer when a 1977 Chevy Caprice almost fell on me...
I was literally 1/2 second away from my death, I fortunately was able to walk away with only elbow damage.
Please be careful guys!

When i did my last transmission swap, I had the car with two steel rims under each wheel. It gave quite a bit of room.

Wait, why do you have to get under the car to change the oil? I usually just kneel in front of the car to do it.

Ditto. I sit sideways in front of the car and just "feel"
I wear gloves though, because headers are usually hot.

Well, first off I'm a visual person and this is my first self oil change. I'd like to get a good view of, learn about in depth, and bond with the car.
Second, oil change was what was on my mind at the time, but the general question of 'what's a good way to raise my car for any purpose' seems to have been answered too.
