92-94 Legacy springs, tops, and perches have the same fitment as an RS, front and rear.

Well, I'm pretty sure the front upper perches are the same anyway.

I agree completely. I have recently put in a group N tranny mount and can't wait to put in the engine mounts.

Cool, I know for sure the 02/03 wrx/impreza springs taper at the top and yo have to use impreza perches. cause i'm running that on my wagon.

now to drop it an inch or so we get that from the struts right? impreza struts will have a lower bottom spring seat which will lower the car. or is the drop from the springs? from my research this changed sometime in 91/92ish or will the impreza struts be the same as the legacy struts?

04+ WRX (and 90-91 Legacy) rear springs taper towards the top, 02-03 WRX (and 92-94 Legacy) do not.

GC Impreza stuff should be pretty much identical to a 92-94. I am pretty sure the struts are the same length and have the perches in the same place. I'm not sure if anyone has actually compared them side by side though. Scott has RS stuff, but it's on a 90.

DMSw/ STI tops!

Phenominal suspension. Springs are stiff enough that my girfriend can sit on any corner of the car and you can't see it move. Catches air over small bumps at speed. The progressive springs soak up potholes like nothing I have ever seen before...you can hit all kinds of gaps in the road flat out and the car stays perfectly level.

Worth every penny IMO on a rally car.

It's stiff enough that you really don't need swaybars, but I kept my whiteline rear on anyways. Took the front off...much better handling on gravel.

I'm loving my H&R coilovers. The dampning isn't adjustable, but it very well matched to the springs. With the Group N tops and the Whiteline ALK, turn-in is nice and sharp. It'll be even better when get a decent steering rack in with the bushings I have sittting here. After my swap is done, I'll work on the swaybars.

+1 for H&R sport springs and KYB Agx 8 way adjustable, Group N Top mounts. Can't beat the vendors on Ebay for prices on the Agx's. Good luck!

The RS struts/ springs will work ok, but they are valved and sprung for a little lighter car than a leggy. You may have to go with a little stiffer spring if you are going to be flogging it in rally x.. or something like an OBS spring if you want more height.

The H&Rs are a good spring, as well as Whitelines, and both will drop the car a bit.

On my rally car I run custom Bilstein coilovers w/ H&R springs and STI top mounts. Height adjustable, valved and sprung to suit the GC8 (can do it for whatever application). They fall price wise between the AGX/ HR set up, DMS or RSSP. Just got four sets built, so if any of you are looking for good rally suspension.. I can also powdercoat the bodies whatever color you want. They work very well, and are easy to modify (springs/ dampening) or rebuild.

A few guys (doug vincent, Matt #1, rs legacy) on the board went for a ride last weekend in Hood River, they can tell you first hand..

Ben,

You can use your spring perches/ tophats with the GC setup. The turbo springs will work as well. For a rule of thumb, 92-99 Legacy suspension bits will interchange with 93-01 Impreza. There are a couple of variations with the OB models (as you know), but other than that, you should be good to go.

spdracr wrote:Ok, just to set this straight this is what i want to do.

option #1
2001 rs2.5 struts
92-94 turbo legacy springs

what i want to know is can i use my stock legacy upper spring perches or will i need impreza upper spring perches?

option #2
2001 2.5rs struts/springs

Can i use my stock legacy upper spring perches with option #2 or will i need impreza perches?

thanks.

That is not right either. 92-94 and 95-99 have different rear strut tops that will not interchange between the two. And it isn't really clear whether the springs and perches are interchangeable either.

Maybe..

Well I've used GC Impreza, 95-99 Legacy (and OB), and 92-94 Legacy struts
on a few cars that I've prepped/ran. If you don't know for sure if it interchanges, keep the stock tophats and usually you can get some thing to work..

My bone stock legacy was the same on the scales as the quoted weight for a 2.5rs; down to the pound.

All that crap about what interchanges with what has been covered to death. There's been 2 stickies outlining it on this bbs for the better part of 3 years.

yeah well you would be wrong on the perches. cause the 01 springs i just got wont fit my 92 perches. so now i need some impreza front perches..

Ok so I got the 01 2.5rs stuff installed and its ok. lowered teh car about an inch but damn I can tell its stock stuff. it kinda sucks at rallycross... way bouncy so when the back end hits bumps/ruts it tosses the ass end around like nothing. I think coilovers might be in my future.. seems the only way to keep some decent ground clearance while stiffening up the ride.

Ben,

You should check out Matt Tabor's RS or my GC8 suspension up close at Mt Hood (before you head into the woods)..It works very well, and is well priced.
can valve them, or spring them to suit, but are well sorted

I was at the school on Sat., but had to leave yesterday..was going to give Paul your decals, but he said you were not coming out to play.. ;-)

Glad that you've got it together and out on the course. :D

yeh i wanted to make it out on saturday but I have this thing called a "job" and it keeps getting in the way of my fun. :) tthe car is getting there... and it should be fully prepped by next season for a run at a championship. I do miss the turbo though.. that extra power can help even out the mistakes.

I have a long list of mods/parts and i'm sure i'll be hitting you up in the near future. My first step is figuring out whats up with the stupid clutch. then i'll worry about the other stuff.

hey on your rallycar do you run a rear swaybar? how is it for rotation? It could just me be needing some time to get used to the car, but i'm really sloppy right now. It feels like the backend is sliding out everytime i turn the wheel, I dont know if thats the soft suspension or If i'm just not used to having a car that turns and doesnt push in the corners. also on the sweeping turns it felt like i had to keep it slow or that backend out slide out (it did a few times). of course it could be the worn out rallytires.. haha its bad when the guys running snows have more grip than i do.

I don't run any sway bars on the rally car..it rotates well, turns in well, and handles rough stages at speed great. There's enough dampening and spring that you don't really need them.

The issue could be the rear sway bar that's contributing to the sliding..Since it's connecting (and limiting) the rear suspension, when you are cornering aggresively you are sliding more. That's due to the suspension not being able to articulate all the way. No bars = true independent suspension and max travel. It's a bit more of handful on the tarmac though.. :D

Also, the crappy tires _might_ be a factor.. ;-)

haha, yeah.. thats getting fixed for next year also. just trying to figure out if I wanna run 14's or 15's. I have some super cool old school 5-stars that came with the car, but they are 14's and wont clear anykind of brake upgrade... not even turbo fronts. I

Its funny, but the rear sway helped the wagon a ton, but i might try taking it off for the last rallycross and see if that helps. its only a 16mm, those guys running 18+ are crazy... :)

If you keep the brakes stock, I have some 14" LS wheels w/ beefy (huge block tread) cooper m/s tires. You could pull a Bill Price, deblock every other one, cut them, run 18psi (he runs 14!), and slay it... The Leggy has more power and is lighter than the 4000q, just need to get the power to the ground , and throw some 20' roostertails!

If you can pull times within 3 seconds of Bill, you're doing great..

Try to run without the bar next time and see what you think.

kyb agx set on 1front 1rear, group n top mounts front rear, ebiach 1.5 drop springs "sport springs".

i had jic fl2s good but cant touch kyb set up, and i had tien coilovers not as nuts as the jics, but still kyb set is the best.
