Sure it's safe, as long as you don't overboost the engine
Anything can be dangerous if you go overboard, dude.

ok then.
so how much boost do you think i could put in to it without overboosting?

i think you should wait till next 4th of july, then get the biggest shot you can find (and pay for) and run your car wide open with the hood up at night
should be a good show

....celebrate the independance of our country by blowing up a small portion of it? It's the American way!
I ran 15psig (intercooled of course) at sea level, and 17psig up here in the mountains, and my turbo's only marginally better than the stock VF11. No engine management, EGTs look fine, narrowband A/F looks fine.

You can "safely" run a 40 hp shot on an NA engine. You can push it up to 80 hp, but thats at the limit.

ok thanks doug.
then another question off of that.....wet system or dry?
lol.
and maybe not this fourth but next fourth i'll run a 100 shot to it and i'll take looooooooots of pictures.
hahaha.

Why don't you sell your car and buy a turbo legacy?
Posted: Fri Sep 15, 2006 8:25 pm
by asc_up
because i don't have the money to buy one right now nor the patience to save up and buy one....

A turbo legacy is going to be cheaper than this buildup you want to do.
Especially think about all the engines you might go through.

word. EJ22T is way overengineered in almost every respect, except the undertorqued crank pulley bolt issues (bad engineer BAD).
My 91SS was $1000, and it drove 300+ miles immediately back home.

maybe i should stick to using this car as a grocery getter. lol.

FTW!!!
If you want to do a big build up, do some studying, get the car that suits your purposes best.

I know of an SS maybe two hours from here for $900.

my Legacy was $900, i also saw my first TLeg today
my car is pretty cheap on insurance and getting a turbo would make it go up a bit, so id just do a engine swap to a H6 and supercharge it, but since i have not the money nor the time, that might never be done, but i wont bother with this EJ22 except maybe a few cheap things like a pulley

how much would an h6 cost?
and how much horsepower do you think i could have with a 3" air intake, a 2.5" cat back exhaust, a ProECM power chip and a perrin pulley?
lol just a question.....
Posted: Sat Sep 16, 2006 3:31 pm
by wiscon_mark
2.5" catback exhaust? you'd lose power, it's too wide.
H6, start saving buddy.

cheapest H6 (EZ30) ive seen is $1300, they go up to $3000, and those are rebuilt without wiring harness
