If you have a welder and a grinding wheel, you can fix the hight issue with WRX seats. Trimming the brackets down to get the seat rails to rest on the floor gets you an extra 2" lower. With the hight adjuster slammed on the drivers seat, the seat touches the carpet and won't slide. Definitely not an issue after that.

lol... diy fixed racing seat. still have to test it with my helmet to see if i'm still happy.

I HAVE to do that. so you just grind down the mounting points and drill/widen holes? What needs to be welded?


I was going to try to make some brackets to lower them but I didn't see an easy way to do it. I've started looking for replacement seats because these are too high.

It does look lower on the passenger side in the picture.

I cant get past the peanut butter color interior.

the wrx seats with my car fit great, the only problem that I had was that the wrx seats do sit higher, about the seat belts I just re-used the legacy locks and belts, if the seat belt falls all the way down you just have to reach a little further down. definitely a better seat.
the boulstering is sweet to have compared to the originals

so will these fit with no modification to the rails?

took out my passenger seat and then tried to install rs coupe seats but the bolt holes don't match up.

i was about to swap the legacy rails with the rs rails but the rs rails have different holes in fitment of the rails.....anyone else have this problem?

Nope, I sat '06 WRX TR Edition seats into my car (front & rear) and they line up like were meant to be there back in '92... I have not known there to be any mounting hole differences between Impreza and Legacy.

The WRX seats have an extra mounting hole in the back of the inside rail of the seats, if I recall correctly. I have them in my car. Not sure what year they are but I think 02-03. They're the black and blue weave seats. They're really nice. The rear seats fit too.

Where the hell did you manage to come up with that exact matching material? If I was running those seats I'd take you up on that in a heart beat...but I'm not, so I wont.

I re-upholstered my WRX seats in black leather. Saved the old upholstery, just in case.

how did you folks swap the buckles?

the 14mm bolt from the 03 bugeye front seat buckles has a groove and was a little short. did you have to get a new bolt and remove the rails for the install? i was trying to remove the rail and of course, i had to strip one of the black screws......

i was able to tighten the seat buckle with just the bolt but was unable to install the nut that came with the bolt. good enough?

I'm a bit confused. Are you talking about the nut that allows the seat belt buckle to rotate freely? I think I remember installing the manual seat belt buckles and when tightened down all the way they do no want to move anymore.

It's been a while though.

Is it just me, or are the seat mount bolts EXTRMELY easy to cross-thread?? Done it on both cars now, both the drivers front right mounts are ruined.

I even had one come pre-crossed from the factory in the wagon

I've got a '05 wrx seat in my car and that right front bolt hole seems really easy to cross-thread. I started cross-threading it after two turns of the bolt (even though I thought I was being very careful not to) and I had to chase the threads. I got it just in time so I didn't have to re-thread the hole.

ya the car i bought already had rear wrx seats so i just picked up some front ones and they are alot nicer... they seem to sit about the same height (with the height adjuster all the way down) they are alot more comfy IMO, and they look ALOT better.

only thing i noticed was that the ss "male" side of the belts do not clip into the WRX "female" sides, gonna go replace those now with the old SS ones

Very good info, but what about the 2004-2005 wrx black seats or sti. Same?

Same thing but much nicer seats. They're one piece instead of adjustable headrest. I want them bad but they run too much $$$.

Not too bad of a price I suppose. Not worth it to me though. I'm picky too and want matching rears so unless I could find a full set for $200 or less I won't be getting them. I imagine the next seats I buy will be racing buckets.
