beautiful scoot there man!
I'd give you more advise, but you've gone and done it already...
And as a fellow rider I must say - be safe, and keep your eyes on
everybody on the road.
for helmets, I roll a HJC flip-face. It was ~$150, and fits my big-ass head really well (as a bonus it is just black and grey - no flames or anything stupid). I love being able to flip-up the face to talk with fellow riders, or get some air at a light.
Just as stated above, get one that fits yer head - but again, you've already bought one....
And for history sake - My first bike was a '76 (or maybe '77?) Yamaha 650 Special (the noodle frame). My wife bought it for me for $100 - I cleaned it, put on a new seat, rode it for a year or so (dropped it twice - very low speed) and sold it for $400 -WOOT (as the kids say)
Get ready for the "sphincter pucker"

when you come in a bit hot to a corner. You just can't get that in a cage! haha

Does it go to 11?
That's pretty high for a v-twin! My CBR went just a bit higher than that, and it was 200cc's smaller, and an inline 4!
Congrats on the gear, I've got an RF1000 and a Joe Rocket jacket too. I was really comfortable.
As for the MP3 thing, on longer highway trips, I would listen to music. Only had the bud in one ear, and it was simply to break the monotony of an unexciting ride. When your cruising on the highway, a bike is just transportation.
The closest thing I can think of is a dedicated track car that the state, for some reason, lets you drive on the street.
Wait until you get your skill up and can experience how exhilirating on-ramps to an open highway can be.
I've had my share of close calls. I was carving some back roads, coming through much faster than was really safe. Probably around 85mph or so. The fastest I've made it in my CAR was around 70. I was coming through great, my pants whipping by the ground around the turns. And on one turn, I had slowed a bit (to around 70). There was a bump. I hit the bump. The front hit it, bounced up, the rear followed. The front pushed a little, and the rear slid for an instant. My front caught, and the rear slid off the tarmac onto that foot and a half long strip of concrete next to the curb. Within inches of slapping the curb, the rear caught. I was counter steering and holding on. I didn't have time to let my life flash before my eyes, it was all instinctual. The rear caught and came back around and I straightened it up.
I don't think I rode backroads for a week after that. It was a real eye opener.
You can very easily kill yourself on a bike. I was being overly aggressive, and riding at the ragged edge of my skill level. Had I been going 1mph faster I'd probably have fused my head with the closest tree, and be dead. When I got the bike the guy told me in confidence, "Whatever you do remember this. If you panic, your going to go down." Not what I wanted to hear as a trembling 19 year old, but it was good advice. I like to think that my extensive mountain biking career helped keep me calm in the face of disaster, but I was lucky. I could have just as easily tensed up and grabbed a handful of brake, and been done for.
I'm glad you got the bike! It'll be a LOT of fun, that's for sure. DEFINATELY take a saftey course. You might think it's dumb, but you'll learn a lot of basic bike control skills, as well as traffic saftey skills. Plus, some let you use a bike that isn't a Ducati for the test. I took my test on a Honda Rebel 250. It's about the size of a moped. I'm 6'1'' and my feet were flat on the ground, my legs bent when seated on the bike. My instructor who'd been riding for some 30 years did the course on his friends lowered GSX-R 1000 (all show, really unfortunate), and said he didn't wish that on anyone.

ok well a little update here guys, I havent really been around lately. The main reason is that I have been spending all of my free time working on getting my house finished and I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have been confined to my bedroom and my office for the past year and have not been able to use the living or dining room due to some construction. Anyway, about the bike, I know alot of you figured I'd kill myself on that thing but I'm pleased to say I havent yet. I have put around 300 miles on it just tooling around back roads near my house due to me not having a license. In Rhode Island it is an absolute bitch to get your moto license. Lets put it this way, if they made it this hard to recieve a welfare check I wouldn't have to support all these baby popping welfare mother crackheads in this state. Ok so I think it was back in the beginiing of April that I "applied" for the lisence program held at the local community college. I recieved a letter telling me that I owed for a class I took in 1994 "FUCK", so the $60 dollars for the moto license cost me $460 due to that class that they had forgot about until I needed them again those fuckers. So I in april I was told that I would get a letter saying when the classroom lectures would be held. A few weeks later I get a letter saying that May something was my 2 classroom lectures held on a saturday from 9-5. 8 hours of just lectures and watching movies at which point I took the written exam and got a 98 due to a tailgating question that I swear we did not discuss in class those fuckers!. Anyway, at that time they say that they will contact us to schedule two 5 hour range classes. so after not hearing from these fuckers after a week I call and ask for my range times at which point they tell me June 30th! WTF? I tell them nicely that that is not going to work for me and I'll take the next available range times at any time of the day or night. They basically do these ranges 3 shifts a day 7 days a week. So I got in June 6th and 8th. So, I tooled around on a honda rebel for 2 days. so after passing the range classes I get a certificate. I then have to go to the DMV and pay $25 dollars to get a permit. The permit has some restrictions for 30 days and then I can go pay more money at the registry and get my license changed to reflect the moto. What a pain in the ass! And to top it all off its fucking raining and I cant ride the bike legally lol

I hate DMVs - they are all the worst run PITA organizations around. A month or so ago I tried explaining the design of a 3-wheel car to the MA DMV to see if it would be classified as a motorcycle or a car (car would make it unregisterable here due to an unavoidable plastic windshield). It's their dumb rules and they don't even know! Most states its - <1500 lbs. and <4-wheels is a motorcycle, but not f'n MA! They even told me 1800cc is too big for a motorcycle when it's a Honda Goldwing engine and Triumph has a 2.3 - never even mind the Boss Hawgs or whatever they are. They basically told me I'd have to build it and see what the inspector says. Yeah, that's a great plan. They couldn't even tell me if I'd need a motorcycle license to drive it were it a motorcycle or wear a helmet either even though it's a closed vehicle (most states are clear on these points). I have to say that they were at least polite.

Whats even worse about a moto license is that the program is run by employees of the community college so basically I end up paying these overweight 5 baby havin welfare hoes twice.

That sucks. I think the DMV or the state police do it here. States do the car test.
