Yeah, they would be a pain to remove without that hex. You would have to cut a notch or pattern into the stud for something to grip.

Guess I'll get the shorter studs and some ball bearings. Thanks for the info.

No you can remove them the same way you remove exhaust studs, put two nuts on them and rotate the bottom one
