Sure you can get away without a relay... But it will be soooooo much brighter and safer with a relay...

I wired mine without the relay then relayed the whole thing and WHOA!!! It made a huge difference!

So you may want to relay it, for performance and safety.

Thats the same reason many here re-wire the headlights with relays.

they have 100watt H3 bulb's at partsource.

...which you should stay away from if you're selecting fog light bulbs.

Well, it means many things, but, yes, typically it means the bulb will be brighter...

ok...i feel like i retard but lets continue, so why wouldn't you want a bright bulb/more light?

Brighter fog lights means you're going to get more glare and reflection and not be able to see as well when you're actually in fog or heavy snow. Kind of like when you turn on the high beams and all you can see is falling snow and not the road in a storm.

If you intend to use the fog lights to augment the low and high beams to see better when it's clear, you should not have gotten fog lights.

Fog lights are for fog and snow and low visibility conditions where you're going very slow. The beam pattern is low and wide and doesn't go very far out in front of the car. Additionally, when it's dark, having all that extra light right in front of your car reduces your vision farther down the road. So yeah, it looks like you can see better, because there's all sorts of light right in front of the car, but you actually can't.

If you want to see better down the road here's my standard list of things to do:

1. aim the headlights properly
2. put in good bulbs (Sylvania xtravision or narva rangepower +50, NOT silverstars)
3. clear the headlight lenses
4. upgrade the headlight wiring harnesses
5. buy some mad tyte edm glass lights (not JDM)
6. put OMG huge driving lights on the front of the car

I've concentrated mostly on step 6.

The relay allows you to keep the high-current circuit short, which usually ends up meaning that the lights get more voltage, and so shine brighter.

for some reason i was under the idea that a relay would lessen the voltage the lights would get, and be dimmer.
