Here's is my "coffee can" mod. I used an exhaust coupler I matched up at NAPA that is about perfect. Walker Part # 41974. Has pretty much the right inlet and outlet and is about 3/4" longer than the factory plastic piece(I didn't cut mine yet but it is not necessary) and I used a 90* black pipe fitting with a 1/2'' threaded piece and welded the 90* in the coupler with my mig. So for under $20 you can have your own coffee cup mod with minimal work. Enjoy!

so, what is the purpose of said mod other than cool noises?

It removes turbulence and restriction from your intake tract. Not a gigantic improvement, but the turbo sound alone is worth it IMO.

...is that your FCD? Is it using an op-amp rated for underhood temperatures? Had any issues with it, how long has it been there? (and which version is it?)
