It wouldn't necessarily be game over -- it's a non-interference engine -- but it would be a mess for sure.

No the crank pulley bolt only holds the pulley on and won't stop the cam belt gear from moving.

If the cam belt gear moves it could rub against the case and damage other things as well as break. It may not be game over, but who knows.

The thing I'd be concerned about is damage to the crank keyway. If it is damaged and you continue to drive the engine that way, especially with the crank pulley off, it will more than likely wallow out the key hole, then the crank would be toast....and essentially the engine would be toast without a rebuild.

You can thread the crank pulley bolt down far enough to clamp the sprocket down. After doing a timing belt job I do this so I can do a compression test before reassembling the timing covers and main pulley.

There is a little lip between the sprocket edge and the end of the crankshaft......or at least it's been like that on every timing belt I've ever done. So tightening the crank pulley bolt won't do anything to keep that sprocket in place.

Oh, I see; you're right. I must have just gotten away with it for the compression testing.

What about washers?
A few different sizes. Ones that run over
the key getting smaller til you hit ones that
just run around the bolt. It'd be difficult to
find the right sizes, but it'd be safer than not
having them...at least I think it could work.

Not in a pinch though unless you're just loaded
with tools haha

You'd have to get larger ones to fit over the woodruff key or notch the washers.

I put it back on and drove it home. When I got home I replaced it with a mint one I had on my spare engine.

I picked up a 2.5 short block the other day and am getting ready to do a Frankenmoter. Just waiting on new gaskets to show up. Lift should be ready soon as well!

Frankenmotor almost complete. I would have finished it last night except I couldn't find the tensioner mounting bracket. A quick run to PnP after work to grab another and then I can put it back together. I will drop it in this weekend when I install the new lift kit.

Frankenmotor and lift are in. I love the added power. Here are a couple pics of the lift.





I put in some quick release pins for while I'm on pavement. She's much more stable with them in.



Next on the list...

1. Re-do the steering linkage.
2. Fab and install my skid plate.
3. Dual Range swap.
4. Exterior lighting and a new rack.

Would be relatively easy with a section of 2X3" square tube and something to cut it with.

Well, I was thinking of different designs yesterday
and how to make lift supports with extra bracing
and buffering to make sure they can take impacts
and heavy off-road driving at speed without folding.

Most of the pieces are fairly easy to fabricate. The two hard ones are the two that take the most pressure, anti-lift at the front and the rear trailing arm. Those two pieces were the whole reason I purchased the kit.

Yep. I noticed those were gonna be the biggest pains.
I'll have to research more into it when I get time.
