You'll get shit from the adjusters. Are you SURE you're not hurt? Sore? Hangnail?
SUE THE BITCH.

I got $1000 for a VW for which I had paid $4500 two weeks prior to an accident similar to yours. Even had the fresh reciept. Unless you are prepared to spend a lot of time fighting for it, they will low-ball your settlement.
I've been there, trust me. Put on a neck brace, call a lawyer, and SUE THE BITCH.

I think your FMIC would fit in an Impreza with no major problems.
I'm too dumb to post a pic on my OBS-t's FMIC, but here is a link to a FMIC set-up similar to yours on a coupe
http://www.rs25.com/forums/showthread.p ... 73&page=14

I personally like the Impreza more than the SS, the uni-body feels much more solid on the Impreza than it does on the SS.
I must admit the SS is more of a sleeper, but folks still get upset when a wagon beats them...

From what I've been told by a few people in the industry is that American Family is decent to work with, unlike Progressive. We'll see what happens. It would be cheaper for them to give me a decent appraisal than going to court over it.

Either way, my gloves are on and I'm ready to jump into the ring.

Holy bunch of couplers on that car! He needs to do a little welding.

Everything depends on what kind of compensation I get and what is availible when I'm in the market. I can't throw down $2k for a decent Impreza. If that '98 Legacy with a blown motor is still availible in a week or two and is a sedan I might jump on it.

Decent Imprezas can be had for about 1K over here - it takes a little time & luck but they can be found.
I like the 98 Legacy body-style, but will you have issues with OBDII inspection?

I am not a fan of 1000 couplers either I have a total of 6 couplers & 4 pipes on both my FMIC set-ups, but you get the idea.....

We don't have any kind of inspections in MN, so the OBD II thing is a non-issue. A '95 and newer Legacy would be a hell of a lot easier to wire than a 1st gen Legacy. THe 1st Gen seems to be the only model withthe ECU in a retarded spot under the right side of the dash.

I still want the car to be livable as a daily driver. I won't get a grocery-go-getter either. For a beater a wagon would be nice, but not as my hotrod.

First things first, and that's not getting hosed by her insurance.

I'm not saying wagons don't make cool hodrods, I just prefer the look of a sedan over a wagon for a car that I will make cherry. Now if I had kids, that would be a different story.

The wagon glares at you and says to join the dark side

(I was converted only a few months ago) Still catch crap about the fact it's a wagon sometimes but it was only a $950 car when I got it. You know you can do some interior work and make them pretty nice. WRX stuff fits pretty well too... Just consider it!

Nate,

Did you take the cross-bars off the top?

I tried doing that on my 97 impreza and the bolt just spins....

Those look like JDM Roof bars on the Impreza.

I took my rack off by unscrewing the 10mm bolts that hold it onto the roof (under those glued-on tabs @ the 4 outside corners of the rack).
I put plain Jane L roof molding on & called it a day.

Josh - My wagon is special :-P . It's a 95 which apparently is the only US model year that got the JDM roof rails which run parallel with the sides of the car. No mods required. I didn't realize it was that unique until I posted the car on rs25.com and guys were drooling over silly roof racks. Who knew?

EDIT- Posted at the same time. 3 Legacy guys are also Impreza wagon guys? Awesome.

Even more reason for Dan to join the bandWAGON ;-)

The car will defiantely be declared a total loss. I'm waiting on a call from the field adjuster to set up a day for me to push it out of the garage for him to look at. I've already pulled my Link Plus, Zeitronix, and Spiider's DCCD Pro. He won't know that though.

Remember BUY the car BACK once it is totaled.
Don't let it leave your drivway!

You can strip all of your stuff off @ your leisure, sell parts to folks, & the take the shell to a scrap metal place & get a couple hundred bucks for it (this is what the "We remove Junk cars Free" places do - its not free as they get a few hundred bucks per car).

Well, the long and short of my conversations with the main and field adjusters is that I'd probably get more out of it by claiming most of my mods. They'll raise the price of the car to the point that they'll fix it, or as the call it, "make me whole again." Two wheels, a tire, and a coilover were also damaged.

To fix it there would need to be decent time on a frame rack. To get a car with sashless windows to not leak, it needs to be perfect.

Oh, and I never had intentions of letting the car out of the driveway. I pulled my ECU, wideband setup, diff controller, and a couple other things right away ;-)

Well, I got my offer. With all the mods they originally thought they could write me a check to fix it, but after figuring out that it would cost about $7k with used parts, they said screw that.

He took the VIN off my dash, which is actually for a Legacy SS, not an L, and with the messed up wheel, tire, and coilover, offered me over $2300 in my pocket after buyback.

Seems reasonable to me.

So, does anyone know of any clean Legacies for sale? Mileage and drivetrain condition need not apply...

Depends on condition, drivability, and what I could get a ticket there for.

I looked on craigslist for CO and there's a ton of nice stuff on there. That'd be a hell of trip though.

You have something in mind?

I purchased a pearl white (? the proper name of the color - homo cream mica...) 91 SS in NYC Clean body, good running motor bad tranny that actually pulled the car around - for $350.
I drove it to my friend garage, parted it out & sent the leftovers to scrap metal for recycling & to get most of my $350 purchase cost back.

No Old School Subaru love in NYC....
What years / models should I search for?

'93-98 Legacy. If its cheap enough I could ship it over here. It would probably be damn near as expensive to drive it back to MN from NY.

Why did he take the VIN off your dash?

So you don't try and transfer it....?
