heck, you were right! Took the dome light assembly off, everything looked fine. checked some voltages, looked like everything worked, when the dome was seperated from the car (not grounded) it worked off the door switches. I put it back together and it worked!

Well my 'fix' didn't last long. Drive home from work today the damn light is back on again! Damnit, this means taking apart the headliner again and tracing the wires, hoping I luck out to find the random short.

I have my doubts, but obviously something is getting pinched or wiggling and shorting itself out again. During re-assembly of everything on the passenger side stuff (where the dome light wire runs), I keep testing to make sure it was working with everything reassembled. I visually traced the wire along the frame and it was far away from where any of the trim pieces clip in and didn't appear pinched.

Yeah, it's probably a pinch in the 12v wire. The light is grounded through the chassis.

I think its actually the 'return' wire which is grounded -- the one that feeds back into the cluster. When I tested it this weekend, both wires which fed the dome light had continuity with the body. One obviously had 12V while the other did not too.

Anyways, looks like I'll be taking this damn thing apart again this weekend, weather permitting. Lets see how many times I can take the plastic trim on and off before something snaps...

I think a pinch in the hot lead would result in a blown fuse.

The light is grounded through the chassis @ the light housing via the switch when in the 'ON' position.

The light is grounded through the cluster and the door switches when in 'auto' mode, or the center position on the light.
