EJ is just an internal code. It seems the E is used for all boxer engines and the second letter is just a family identifier.

Sorry John, I forgot to put the link in, but it's in a sticky somewhere on this site, or HERE

Ok, this might be extremely dumb:
Has anyone done an AWD conversion from their FWD Subaru?
Is it a bolt on affair, or not possible at all?

Not only can it be done, but it is also well documented on the site!

So I should not be limiting myself to just AWD then...
What section of the board would I find this under?

Josh (Legacy777) covered it pictorally...and I believe his writeup is found in the library

John, one thing to consider is that in the FWD to AWD swap, besides the main pieces such as driveline, awd tranny, rear axles: you'll need a bunch of misc parts that always pop up on any kind of conversion. You know, ordering a bunch of parts, finding half don't fit, ordering more, some don't fit again, and on and on... weeks or months go by...

If you don't have junkyards with Subarus or stealerships close by, your swap might become a huge headache. So I would recommend getting what you want to begin with, and improve on that.

Yea, that makes the most sense.
And yes, I have had huge headaches with almost every project I have ever done.
If I have learned anything from cars, it is: plan on spending 2-3 times as much as you think it will cost.
