Well if you have the time and know how, I'd suggest going with the 6-spd tranny. It is a much newer design, better synchros, and will handle abuse better.

The main drawbacks I've heard are that the gear ratios aren't that good, meaning you have to shift a lot, and that it's heavy.

Whenever my 5spd dies, I will most likely go with the 6spd and probably have the Legacy 6th gear put in so I have lower rpms while cruising on the highway. Or just get a Legacy spec b tranny with that ratio already.

Well I have time , as far as know how???!! im willing to learn haha, I was curious do all STI transmissions mount up? or is it just 04-05 or 06-07? As far as shifting I am not really concerned about shifting back and fourth. Are there any particuar threads that explain all of this well? all the ones I am finding show or give very little as to what goes into and how the swap goes. Ill keep searching deffinetly but was curious as to if you guys had any links readily available, if not I will continue on.

I know fourthGear said he would be doing a write up on the swap in the thread that I posted but either I cannot find it or he just never did it. Would be curious to how he went about it.
