Hmmm that's pretty interesting!
Did they happen to tell you what kind of coloring?
Or ethanol in the states in pretty much clear all by itself, and will be a little brown/opaque when the gasoline is added.

They say that they add a red colour to the E85, to be able to see it when it's on fire.
I have not yet confirmed this. Supposedly, you should run your car on regular 95octane fuel once in a while, to remove residues from the E85.
I think my residue might come from my silicone boost hoses, but not confirmed yet.
*Edit* Maybe its my fuel-lines.. I dont have this black tar above the injectors..

Can you clean the residue off easily? Is it sticky, slimey....how would you describe it?

I cleaned it off with engine degreaser, no need of scrubbing, just degreaser and compressed air.
Its a bit sticky, like permatex or a dried in splash of coca-cola.
I think something is getting solved up by the E-85, injected with the fuel and evaporated on the hot surface in the cylinder heads.
Have been running on E85 for maybe a year, about 1000km's/6200miles.
This is the first time i have the intake off after switching to E85.
Maybe i will take the injectors out after a few thousand miles anf check again..

Are you getting the E85 at the same station every time?

No, its from different places.
Maybe just a bad batch of fuel can cause this, but its a fair amount of residue.
I can cut my fuel filter up later, and check. If its fuel-related, it should be black.

Yeah, I'd be curious to see what the fuel filter is like.
You may just try cleaning the residue and may have to check again to see if you can rule out a one time cause vs. a reoccurring issue.
