i have the one from the ej22, i dunno how it couldve gone bad without running the motor ill try it tomorrow

If you still have the code, I'd suggest checking the wiring harness from the sensor to the ECU to make sure it's good.

so i started it up and it took it around the block, my cats and the resonator were glowing red hot and smoking like crazy... wtf
no CEL and the temp gauge went to the middle, no higher, rough idle.. but glowing cats... really? why?

there is a missing header bolt causing the nice exhaust leak noise you hear, on some starts theres a nasty grinding noise til i let off the clutch...
an intermittent low hollow knock sound.. sounds like its popping air out the intake filter sort of... you can hear it for the first time at :36 when the motor bogs downenough

Sounds like there is quite a bit of unburnt fuel being dumped into the exhaust, which is causing the glowing red cats. I'd suspect an injector may not be seated properly, or an injector may not be working right. Are they the stock injectors?
How long does the car take to warm up to normal operating temp (temp needle in the middle?)

seemingly average time for the engine to warm up to the middle, maybe a bit slow but its been a while.. they are stock injectors from the 2.5, yes..
its definitely the cats and resonator that were smoking, i'm almost positive it was not coolant like i thought initially
the wiring harness was pretty straight forward so im pretty sure i got the harness right for the injector plugs but i'll check to see if theyre seated right, would that cause the crazy idle or could the cats be clogged and the rear o2 be freaking out?

Refresh my memory, are you using the ej22's ECU or the ej25's ECU?

I would think that may be your issue. I don't think the ej22 & ej25 injectors flow the same.....and even if they're rated the same, they are going to have different injector latencies. You need to match the injectors and MAF sensor to the ECU.

They may, but it doesn't matter from the ECU's point of view. The ECU is programmed to use a specific set of injectors and is tuned accordingly. If the 2.5 requires more fuel than the 2.2 injectors can put out then you could run lean, but as you found out, running larger injectors than what the ECU thinks are in there doesn't really work well either.

i guess the injectors frome the phase I ej22e flow at 280cc
and the ej25d phase I flow at 280cc also
except the opposedforces site has different part numbers for the injectors... should i swap anyways?

Any chance you can get me VIN's for the donor car and your car? Or possibly just the manufacture date. I can look up the exact part # for the injectors in each car and see if they supercede to the same number or not.

i scoped out opposed forces and they were different but i've since scrapped the donor, it was the 1998 forester, ej25d dohc phase 1

Everything but that line that crosses from one side of the intake manifold to the other makes sense and looks alright. Not sure why you would have that one that crosses the intake manifold.

ayy ,, so i got everything working and have been averaging about 31MPG somehow...
car shifts and everything just fine but im getting a P1702 Auto Trans Diagnosis Signal missing or something along those lines... TCU is unplugged and it's just the CEL i'm trying to get rid of

I would guess you're getting that code because the TCU is unplugged and the ECU is looking for it. The ECU needs to be told the car is no longer an AT. I would assume you need to do something like what I did for the AT/MT identifier pin.
