Well I went ahead and ordered all OEM replacement bushings and whatnot for my shifter.

With all the spots of rust on this car I'm not going to put the $ into it to enhance it's performance much so it's a stock set up for me.

The shaft is slowly sliding back off the nub. If the new bushings don't remedy the hard shifting and make it easier to put into gear then I'll have to glue the thing back on.

I'm excited to do this work on the car but it'll have to wait for a bit. 4-5 of dozen parts I ordered have to come from Japan so that might take a week or 2.

Final update!!

Good news!
All those bushings were well worth the money!! It is so much tighter now compared to what it was. The shifter doesn't bounce to the right anymore either.

Bad news!
The true cause of the hard shifting was a faulty trans. I drove it for a month like that before I picked a replacement and it was like night and day difference.

More good news!!?
I now have a hopeless relationship with this car. I've fixed many things on this old beast and the list of issues never seems to end but I can't stop myself from fixing them.

Does that make me crazy?

Not one bit. When you take the time to just dig in and get a feel for what you're working on and resurrecting from the ground up you start to enjoy the little things you do. I know from experience.

Press on with pride bud, your relationship with your car will become far more than what you have now.
