You cant adjust the stock controller can you? I ordered a cheap mechanical one from ebay so that should resolve my problem.

I was unaware you could adjust the factory boost controller. I was going to bypass it to run at wastegate pressure but I was unsure of how to do that. The controller has three hoses on it on from pressurized side of the turbo, one that runs into the wastegate and one back into the intake. Can I connect the "hot" side from the turbo to the wastegate and plug the intake hole? I also ordered a manual boost controller and that should go between the wastegate and "hot" side of the turbo correct?

Sorry did not realize my post made it on the second page. My second and third question still stand, how do I bypass the factory controller and is that the correct placement of the new boost controller?

Nevermind, I found a great post with a diagram that answered my question. I was right so the car is now running at wastegate 6 psi and then when I get my controller I am going up to 10 psi. WOAH! I guess the car is running now so I think that ends this thread. Thanks for all the help.

Alright sorry to revive this thread but I am having sort of a new kind of issue. The car is running great as far as being a daily driver but, when I try to make a WOT pull the car pulls well up until about 4K but then the engine seems to slow down. I can easily run the car out redline but it takes a coons age to get there. Now I have NGK V-Power Plugs and 8MM NGK Wires. I re-did my grounds and they are all nice and clean. I am using a MBC since the factory on took a dive once I started driving the car. I have my boost at 10PSI. I also have issues when I start the car while cold as soon as the car goes into boost it seems to sputter and my boost gauge will spike up to 16-18PSI. I am assuming that these issues are related but cannot figure it out. Do you think that my ignition coil might be the culprit?

Oh and one more tidbit, my spark plugs are at the factory gap of .44 or .044 whichever is correct.

Do you have a wideband O2 sensor? I wonder if you're running too rich. Were the plugs very black/sooty looking?

Plugs were fine and I don't have a wideband. I think I may have figured it out though. I was looking through some posts to make sure I got all of the grounds and I found that lovely document you scanned Legacy777. I missed the ground for the ECU!! I am going to clean it tomorrow and run an extra wire to the frame just to be sure it has a good connection. I am pretty positive that is my remaining issue. After cleaning all the other grounds the car got much better, and it has the same behavior as before the clean grounds just toned down. I will update tomorrow on this thread if that resolves my issue.

Ok I re-did the main ground, and spliced in new 10 gauge wire and ran it back to the negative battery terminal. It got better but not right still. So I picked up a K&N air filter today and some MAF cleaner. That fixed it! The car is a monster now. These short gears are a blast. But this it a good new bad news kinda day. I think my turbo is on its way out. After some spirited driving I had oil all over the intake tract near the turbo so the turbo is spitting oil inside or outside. Either way it means a new turbo is in the works. I am going to switch to a TD04 and TMIC setup. I know that I am going to need an 07ish WRX TMIC so that I don't have to hammer in the firewall. Whhat was the turbo on that same year? Was it a TD04 or a TD05? I also going to build a custom intake at the same time so this will be a good project. One other question will my tiny stock hood scoop flow enough air for the top mount? was going to go front mount but this chhanges my time frame too much.

On second thought, I know that I had overfilled my oil and prolly had close to an extra half a quart in the pan. I bet that all that oil was coming through the PCV under boost. I turned my boost down to waste gate pressure and had no problems on my way to work. Now I wasn't quite as rough with it this morning as I was yesterday but I had no smoke non-the less.
Any informed opinions?

How is your PCV system setup? Is it stock?

Yep completely stock. I have cleaned my PCV valve before this incident and it was dirty but it moves and seemed functional, prolly should replace that.

I guess you could see if it continues or not. If not it may be related to the overfilling.

Thats what I was thinking. I also turned down the boost just in case. I may be newish to turbo engines but I am not stupid.

Before I start it should be noted that before I fixed my MAF though the car was not running nearly as good I did not have any oil leaks where I am seeing them now! Alright after romping on it with the boost turned down I had less oil than before, but I thought that it was probably tied to less oil available in the system. So I turned up the boost again! Back to 10PSI and I still have oil but less of it, also my oil level has gone done but seems to have leveled out just above FULL on the dipstick. Guess that is why you shouldn't overfill your oil.

Just an update I am still getting oil and have yet to locate the source for sure but the car really doesn't seem to be using that much. I bought a new PCV valve for the car and will be putting that on tomorrow.

New PCV valve and some more driving. I am down to the correct amount of oil and have not had nearly as much oil leaking from the intake. Must have just been over filled. Not time to replace the whole cracked aged and beat up intake. Thanks again for all the input.
