Re: Ej22t issues diagnosing codes
For the MAF issue, start the car and un plug the maf. If it dies, you may need to just clean it because it's getting an abnormal signal. Autozone/O'Riely's sells a can of MAF Cleaner. If you get this code cleared it may clear others.
Knock sensor, common issue. I bought a new one on ebay for around 25 bucks.
Air control valve, Might be kinda hard to find one. Parts shed will be your best bet. There's a writeup on here somewhere about using some SEAFOAM to clean the idle air control valve.
VSS, If you're speedometer is working and this code keeps coming back, Maybe there is a problem with the cluster, replace it? Or you are not clearing the codes right.
35 purge solenoid, Don't even worry about it at the moment.

Re: Ej22t issues diagnosing codes
I have some of the same codes but the 33 code confuses me a little bit. I just finished a motor build and swap on my wagon and pulled knock sensor, vss and purge valve codes. Two of the three are very apparent but the vss is a strange one to me because its not a circuit and looks to be purely mechanical, I havent pulled the cluster yet to see what it actually looks like back there. It looks like a separable part, I took the clip off the cable itself and unthreaded the reed sensor out of the trans and the cable was definitely broke for some time because it fell out of the sensor body. Is it really a serviceable part or should the whole thing be replace even if for good measure. Sorry if I'm thread jacking bit I can't find any real information or the part online.

Re: Ej22t issues diagnosing codes
I hear 33 is a common one with swaps, which this has had. I tightened everything up tonight but after running my boost gauge for a few days I see that it max's at 10psi, healthily. Then for no reason it macs at 6. Weird.

Re: Ej22t issues diagnosing codes
I'll do a bit more investigation today but I might need one for sure. I'll let you know mate.
Re: Ej22t issues diagnosing codes
You need to use BOTH the green & black plugs to clear the codes, did you do that and follow these or similar instructions?

Re: Ej22t issues diagnosing codes
Yeah I know. I have cleared the codes a couple times now, thanks though. I did a bit of cleaning up and stuff today as my intake was quite greasy inside, all the way from my air box. I ripped it all out, cleaned it all and made sure it all went back in nice and tight. Same with my vaccum hoses. I'm gonna clear codes and see if it's gotten any better.

Re: Ej22t issues diagnosing codes
Cleared codes again, same codes. I've read the instructions to clear 800 times, the check engine light goes out and still. Same codes.
On the plus side; my open door sensors now work. Woo.
atleast it runs well.

Re: Ej22t issues diagnosing codes
Oh also, since cleaning everything from my intake; my turbo spools a little harder and the wastegate is splashier and louder. Feels healthy though.

Re: Ej22t issues diagnosing codes
You may have an issue with your ECU then. Try and get another 22T ECU and see if the same codes come up.

Re: Ej22t issues diagnosing codes
There are 2 different black plugs in that same area, are you possibly plugging in the smaller one that is black with a stripe?
I usually don't bother with the plugs for clearing codes, I take off the negative battery terminal and press on the brakes to discharge any residual energy.

Re: Ej22t issues diagnosing codes
I wasn't aware you could clear codes by draining the stored power inside the car. I'll try that also. I'm 100% sure I've cleares them properly on numerous occasions now but I'll check once again for sure.

Re: Ej22t issues diagnosing codes
So after clearing codes that way too I still get the same codes. I'm gonna buy a different ECU and see how that does.

Re: Ej22t issues diagnosing codes
There's been a couple reported cases of code 35 aka the purge control solenoid causing the ecu not to be able to reset... It's really wierd. I'll do a little research to see if I could find the threads.

http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=22322 < resistor trick for clearing code 35, might work for you, if you indeed have a "supercode" or even a bad purge control solenoid

Re: Ej22t issues diagnosing codes
Oh that's awesome. I'm glad someone did a write up on this cause if this is the case then my check engine light would be lit for life haha. I'm gonna try it tomorrow, see what happens.
