What happened to the bearings? Lose oil pressure, oil pump fail?
I wouldn't have thought Manely rods to be cheap. I thought they were a reputable brand.

Was this the motor in the GL?

It's interesting you mention the oil pump. I have heard people say they're "upgrading" to the higher flow oil pump (11mm or 12mm) and really it isn't an upgrade....there's no need for more oil flow. It can actually cause more oil to flow around the internal bypass which could cause increaed oil temps and frothing. There was a thread a little while back talking about that.

Check it out...starting on page 2

Yup I've seen a few peeps lately saying the 11mm pump is not a good idea.

Yes josh this is the GL motor.. The block is still perfect and so are the pistons... Ill get a new used crank and a extra rod and put this all together just for a spare.. Might as well use what's ok

I believe it's the oil pump also that made this mess, I checked the rod bearing journals and they are in spec. I should have just put on the 10mm like I all ways do

I use std bearings all around and keep the squirters in my builds. The legacy is still running strong with out a problem and that's the way I should have built it !...

This motor had a oiling issues from the start It was low last year and never really could get up to pressure... For some reason after a couple pulls this motor you couldn't even touch the hood
With out burning your hands that's how hot it would get..

There is allot of donts that I did in this build which won't happen this time around ! Ill be keeping it like how I built the other times..

6" thick? That's pretty thick. Isn't the thicker only better to a certain point? Every inch you go thicker is less efficient than the last due to it carrying the dissipated heat from the last. I don't remember the formula but I read about it in corky bells maximum boost book.

Yeah I think that may be too thick...plus it will have a pretty negative affect on the air stream going to your AC condensor & radiator.

So you're ditching the AWIC setup? Don't you like it?

^^ i had 10 ej22t but sold some and mangled one, only 7 left now.

but the intercooler is the perfect size for 550whp its from bell intercoolers corky bell. they did the math on my set up and what i have to work with and thats the size that works for me.

about the flow ill be opening up more of the front so it will get more air now so we should be ok with everything in the back.

also the AWIC did work but couldnt keep up for more power level, even the bell intercooler guy said air to air is much better in the end.

inspiration for my front mount intercooler !

ya i just called bell intercoolers, told him my problems he asked about my set up and flow rate turbo size power ill make around and he said ok we have a couple sizes pick one lol.

thats the only size that will work or look like that BMW i posted lol..... price was 750 us 30 ship

so the broken spun rod bearing motor with the wiseco pistons and manley rods is alive !! motor #1 EJ22T she lives and is running ok !

but that was just to bleed coolant and do the flush and check everything over. OK SUBARU !

motor #2 (aka the spare), EJ22T with wiseco pistons (@ machine shop getting fitted), Carillo Rods, ACL race bearings.

thanks to Dov@NVauto for my pistons and rods !

i picked this time around the super light weight SA rods from carrillo ! on my turbo legacy i used the very expensive and rugged H beam version. ill try something different with the spare.

Image

the seat base creation like the passenger i had to make. its all 304L SS so no rust after 50years !... tig weld and we are good to go !..
