I'll listen to anything and do say that a lot but i seriously dont like pop, its up there with country and really heavy metal. My preference is rap though, only because the only time I listen to music is in the car and all the other stuff hurts my ears in a car.

I wish I had seen this post earlier. Right now my words probably seem like a moot point, but here's my take on it.
In the 26 years that I've been on this Earth, I've come to realize that you should really do what you're happy doing. If your interest is in cars, by all means work on them if that's what truly brings you happiness. You could also expand on this by even persuing a career in the automotive industry!!
I've been working as a consultant for almost 4 years now. I can't say that I like the job, but it pays the bills. I have been trying to save up so I can go back to school and possibly go to a technical school to learn automotive mechanics. But I digress.
As for the holiday season, I really think anyone who's single will start to feel somewhat depressed. I know I do. I was diagnosed with depression when I was 14. I haven't felt the brunt of losing my parents, however, I did have a horrific time when my fiancee of 10 years broke things off to be with my best friend. Hearbreak, nonetheless. Nowadays, everytime this holiday season or a "couple" season approaches, I get this sorrowful feeling come over me. Not only that, I totally find myself second guessing my emotions and will often break things off with girls because I was afraid . . . to get close to them like I did with my ex. But again, I digress.
As for the relationship thing, it'll come when it comes. In terms of meeting the girls, I can give you this word of advice. Standout. Honestly, the girls I've met and gone out with have always astonished me. "Why me?" Basically, in the end they were attracted to me: 1, being funny, 2, being a dumbass, 3, me not acting like a meathead you see in your typical bar or club . . .
In my experience, girls don't really see a guy and think "he's hot." Sure, they'll be initially drawn to a guy's looks, but they're even more initially attracted to a guy's actions. Like I said, do something that makes you standout, say something that is completely off-the-wall and outlandish, and give them a reason to take notice and wonder what makes you tick. That will perk their interest more than any big bicept ever will!!

I guess that's my problem....I typically don't act like a nutball in public or around people I don't know well.......I guess really it's situation dependant......

I used to listen to mostly industrial metal (women don't actually hate all of it!), but now its so varied I'm not even sure what to call it. Most stuff people wouldn't know.

Steers, Beers and Queers! Seriously though what kind of industrial did you listen to? The Revolting Cocks, A Split Second, My Life with the Thrill Kill Cult ( one of my favorites), Minisrty, NIN and stuff or others?

I used to be the same way. Horribly shy. It's just one of those things I had to force myself to do. For me, it was all a very low self-esteem thing when growing up. I'm not completely out of my shell now, but I'm workin on it:)

Indeed. . . being outgoing and light-hearted is a good thing, regardless of your love life. One thing that does attract women, and basically makes everyone around you gravitate toward you, is CONFIDENCE.
People love hanging out with, and being friends with, a confident person. Not only that, but women can smell it . . . and from my experience, is one thing most of them hold in high regard.
This is not all to be confused with arrogance. No one likes that. Just be confident in who you are, and don't take anything too seriously. Hell, I get ribbed by the friends constantly (even by Laurel) about my age. I'm the "old guy" in our group of friends, and no one ever lets me forget it. Know what, though? I laugh at myself more than everyone else does. Turns out that everyone likes me because I don't take things too seriously. . . most of all, myself!

I like KMFDM and Front 242 and Frontline Assembly sounds familiar but some of that stuff I've never heard of before. I've been kinda out of the loop since I got married and started a family though.

The women I know seem to like KMFDM, Gravity Kills, and a few others, which I almost find surprising, but it's been universal that they've all hated Primus. Yet they like stuff like the Village People, ABBA, and Meatloaf... Go figure. That stuff 'll never be in my car no matter what they'll do. After all, my car has good taste too and I wouldn't want to subject her to that - it's not like she'd get anything out of it (although, possibly a more mellow driver...I'm not sure she'd like that).

I can listen to all music except country and most pop. I used to be into the punk scene in the early nineties, but grew extremely tired of it when it started blowing up. Blink 182 used to be Blink and they played in Berkeley/SF/Oakland all the time. Same with Green Day. Once that shit started getting so much airplay and everyone and their brother started showing up at the shows I got super tired of it. The thing that really did it in for me was going to college. I left the Bay Area in '96 to go to Boulder, CO for school. I just basically stopped buying new punk CDs altogether because I wasn't around/involved in the scene anymore and because it just got monotonous for the most part. There's still a TON of good bands, but I'm just not into the scene anymore. The only time I'll listen to a new album/song/band is when my friends play if for me.
Ska on the other hand I will always listen to and be a part of. No other music makes you want to move and dance like Ska. I just saw a Hepcat reunion show in Hollywood a few months ago and they just played in SF a month or so ago. Both shows were unbelievable. Those are some of the most talented musicians evAr. So yeah, if anyone wants to talk ska, PM me or jump on IM and hit me up:D.
