Is this ECU plug and play, meaning it uses the factory wiring harness? I understand that once its in it needs to be tuned. How much does it cost?

It is plug and play for the overseas legacy. For us a minor rewire is most likely needed. Im waiting on these answers because I may use the same ECU. Either that or wire in one of the common WRX ECU so that any tuner could help me out. One big question is wether this will drive a waste spark system like the standard link ECU's.

The plug in Link can handle waste spark.

As for plug and play, it pretty much is, except for the map sensor, that is the only wiring you have to do.

Well we don't have a map sensor, so that is solved, unless you were refering to the MAF?

The Link uses a MAP sensor instead of the MAF sensor to read airflow.

no I don't have a 2.2ltr, we don't overbore here, we have stroker kits available to us here, 2.2ltr and 2.4ltr.

the problem with my spark is that it tends to blow out under boost, its probably due to the length of time they were sitting on the halfcut out in the weather, and the fact that they are now 10 years old.

A guy in sydney here has SUBSTANTIAL mods to his RS and runs a 2.2ltr block, MY98 heads, turbonetics 550HP turbo, and external wastegate, he uses these coils and has been running them on 23psi for 3 years without drama.

I can't beleive you don't have MAP sensors on your cars? how does your boost cut work? we have both MAP and MAF sensors on ours.

Yeah the 95's and on up have the MAP sensor, but we don't. I found this out by buying some little dohicky from ebay that basically is a timing advance "mod." I would advise everyone to stay away from those little mods. This one was more reputable than most, though (in my defence). haha

It required a MAP sensor to work, and after doing some research I found out that we didn't have one. The MAF may have some extra wires than yours that collects the extra information that that your MAP uses for the boost info. I seem to recall something about that, but I'm not that knowledgable about it.

Other guys know more of the specifics of how the boost cut works.

Legacy turbos do have MAP sensors, just like Liberty RSes.

The Gen1 Legacy has a MAP sensor which is used for boost control and a MAF for air flow.

I think I remember your post back in the day about this piece. I believe you are in fact, confusing the MAP sensor for the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor that is non-existant on our cars. I remember a lot of those ebay chips worked by modifying the IAT signal.

NA early legacy have a atmospheric pressure senser inside the ECU and an air flow sensor.

Later NA legacy have a pressure sensor on the right side shock tower and an air flow sensor

Turbo legacy have a pressure sensor on the shock tower with a two position pneumatic switch that allows it to measure either atmospheric or after turbo pressure. They also have the air flow sensor.

Now knowing that, is this any different that the Liberty RS?

Sounds the same as the JDM/OZ RS/GT's.

But as I said, the Link uses a bosch map sensor to measure airflow so the MAF becomes redundant.

I swear I read that the link has a choice between the two type of air flow sensors, the possum link is meant to be "plug and play" so couldnt it use the stock MAF?

possumlink relies on a MAP sensor, infact i'll be removing my MAF for better airflow

Just for completeness' sake, ciper, non-turbo models with both a pressure and airflow sensor do also have the pressure exchange solenoid.
