How hard is it to change the handles?

The rear doors are a joke.

Remove the inner panel peel back the vapor plastic and remove two nuts holding the handles on.

The front on the other hand.

Same process for removing, except the rod that connects to the handles is the biggest pain in the butt to re-attach.

The smaller the hands the better in this case. I managed, but my hands hurt right now.

I also learned that the butter knife makes an awesome tool for working on doors. I used it more than anything else.

Hmmm. Reviving threads again - has anyone deleted that strip completly? (i.e removed then bogged over it)

Im thinking bout getting a respray.... that could be on the list.

I own a 1991 Turbo where the black on the chrome chipped off, especially above the doors. Go to a sign shop that uses outdoor vinyl for lettering. The one I went to had different finishes of black vinyl (from matte to shiny finishes). Ask to buy some long thin strips and then apply it right over the chipped paint. I used shorter strips, so there is a seam. But the long strips would look better. Since it's outdoor sign vinyl, it holds up really nice. You can't tell the difference between the paint and the vinyl unless you look real close. It's pretty inexpensive, looks great and will last a long time if done right!

you cant really remove the black moulding strip without doing lots of bodywork. If you look, it wraps around directly under your tails, and is attached to the rear bumper. When I was planning on doing alot of body work on my 91L I considered it, but changed my mind due to that factor

Well today i spent all afternoon blacking out the chorme on the trim of my 93 legacy. I have to admit that i like the blacked out look much more than the chrome. I also blacked out the grill with the exception of the subaru logo, and the trim that is just under the windows. If you plan on trying this i would highly recommend using Duplicolor Trim paint. The stuff dries very evenly and is ment to be applied to trim so it is very durable. I am planning on repainting the upper trim around the windows with a higher gloss Duplicolor trim paint, because like most legacys of the early ninties the paint is chipping and chrome is showing through. Plan on spending three to four hours working on this kind of project. Bail out the steel wool and acetone and do it right. here are a couple of photos.

The stock pic works.

When I painted over my chrome strips, I used two grits of sand paper, then a grit/grime cleaner, then 2 light coats primer, 3 light coats paint. Similiar treatment for grille.
The paint came from Home Depot, nothing special.
The resulting thickness has helped prevent any chips so far (5 months).

Do you have modified pics from a little more far away? Better yet a 3/4 pic.
I wish my paint were in the same condtions as yours.

will have to take a couple more pics tomorrow. Today i took the two front door pannels off removed the speaker covers, ripped the fabric off of them and painted them black. I did the same to the speaker covers in the back. I also removed the window vent on the top of the door pannel and the door handle inset and painted both of those black. Believe it or not, the removal of the fabric on the speaker covers seems to have made my sony 6 1/2" 's sound a lot better. It sounds as though the fabric really dampened the high pass sound. I will post some pics of these improvements tomorrow.
