$600 is pretty damn good IMO Scott. I thought, was afraid, maybe he'd be a lot higher then that.
I will help all I can with whatever you decide to do yourself but like you said I'm a very busy guy. Still, I will make every effort to be there when you need it.
I really hope this works out. If the swap is only $600 then that leaves plenty of money to fix up the L's body and do a few easy, cheap "must have" mods.

So it looks like Maaco is offering the best deal. I think I'm going to take it. They will pull the bumper out, replace the bumper, replace the trunk, replace the tail lights, fix the other damage and paint the entire car while also fixing the rust for $1100.00. Sound like a good deal???
If they do a good job, that sounds good... painting the entire car and fixing the rust is a pretty big deal. How are they going to fix the rust?
Do you know anyone who's had that Maaco paint their car? From what I hear, Maacos vary widely in quality. I was looking at them when considering having my old Benz painted. I've heard that some do good work, while others just spray new paint on top of old paint, meaning the new paint'll wash off after just a few years.

From what they've told me at this one they sand blast the entire car before they paint it. As far as the rust goes they weld new metal in after they cut and/or grind.
Hm, as far as I know that sounds pretty good. Someone who knows more about body work can probably give you specific questions to ask them, but that sounds right.

Ok, I talked to the guy at Maaco and he said that, in my case, they would sand the entire car down but not to the metal which is what I figured. He said that cars where the paint peels off (Buick, Ford Focus) is a manufacturing defect and they ususally sand them to the metal otherwise the paint may peel off again. He assured me that there'e a warranty and that if there's a problem with the work that is their fault like improper sanding then they will fix it under the warranty. He also said that since each Maaco is independently owned that they do ineed vary from one shop to the other. I know it's in his interest but he was assuring me that he has a good, but not perfect, track record. His honesty about that is confidence building.
In any case, $1100 would be pretty good even if you do eventually have to have a little more paintwork done a few years down the road. People often pay around 2 grand for decent all-over paint jobs.
