They came stock with front and rear discs.

SS had vented rear discs. However, I'm sure someone somewhere has put solid rear discs on without knowing any better...

That's exactly why I haven't 'upgraded' to WRX rear brakes.

WRX rear brakes are a downgrade...

My point exactly. That's why I put the quotes around upgraded. Sarcasm is hard to convey via text. Haha.

I'm bored so I figured I would throw in my info if anyone would ever care. 93 Quicksilver turbo wagon, auto, build date 10/92, VIN is JF.........903107.

Dealer badge on the back says Shortline Subaru Denver-Aurora , the damn thing is riveted on so i haven't removed it plus I kinda like the SHORTLINE emblem. Somehow this baby migrated south to FL and I managed to get it before the crusher.

I have noticed I don't see as many for sale as I did when I first got it 4 years ago. IDK if people are wrecking the shit out of them or more people are finding out about them and their potential. Most people down here still have no idea about them or that they ever even existed.

I work for Subaru Canada (sales)

We still sell a very small amount of turbo legacy's each year. Subaru Canada sells about 22.000 cars a year in Canada and we are having record years.

So I think these numbers for our cars are not to far off because in the 90's Subaru sold very few cars in north america.

I currently own 3 turbo legacy's
I know my RS-RA is rare only sold in japan and 20 per month built and only 2 years with the same bodystyle.
I really doubt the regular turbos are that rare but you don't see too many around like in the past.
my vins
RS-RA BC5019926
93 TW JF1--900961
92 TW JF1--906580

I believe it was automatic from the factory.
Yours was 5spd from the factory.

Keep in mind I'm getting old and codgy (I turn 24 in two weeks), but I say... who gives a rat's ass how many of these were produced.

It doesn't matter how rare they are, because they're never going to be sought-after collector cars.

In 50 years, the WRX/STi probably will be, like the American muscle cars are now. They'll be sought after by the geezer versions of today's douchebags.

But gas engines will probably be illegal by then... if there's any gas left.

German???????

My 92 LSi came from that same dealership. Pisses me off to no end that it was riveted and that emblem is cracked and on its way to falling off. It'll look worse if that happens. Since owning my car I haven't seen any other LSi models in Colorado. Either that or I'm blind

Mine's from Liberty Subaru in Jersey, and it's been in Florida since 2002. I bought it 3 months ago at a good will.

Back on topic, I know this is beating a dead horse, but I got an email from SoA that may shed some light on why the numbers are wrong, and I'm sure someone's already found this, but I'll throw it out just to be sure.
SoA wrote: Subaru of America does not provide the production numbers for its models. We only provide sales results, which are only broken down by model line.

Obviously an old topic, but its got me wondering.. based on info above, even if there were "only" 688 Legacy Turbo sedans, what about the Turbo Legacy wagons? The above SOA numbers don't seem to mention them.

Very curious, hopefully its okay to bring back up such an old thread

Also have you guys considered doing a Registry of all folks with original Turbo cars? I remember seeing on on Galant VR4 forums, only 2000 or so of those produced, seems like a neat idea. Because regardless these seem like very rare cars these days

I'm sure its higher than 688!! but saying that , Ive been at a subaru dealership now for 14 years. I can count on one hand how many I have seen locally in those years and 2 were my friends!! I couldnt find one. so I made one from a 93lsi :)

Again.

Not to beat a dead horse because no one really knows how many there are out there.

I live in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. I have seen a few 90-94 legacy turbo's.

To be fair, Winnipeg is the biggest city in Manitoba soo your likely to see more.

Probably in my travels and such i have seen probably 12-15, 90-94 legacy turbo sedans and no wagons.

and in that 12-15 cars 3 of which are mine!

Also if there is 688 in the states, just by using your guys population to guess how many are in canada.

USA have 10 times the population than canada. So that leave canada with 68.8 legacy turbo sedans.

That would be NUTS!!!!!

Also a side note:

For some reason there are like 6 92 SS rolling around my area. I know that!

I emailed Subaru of Canada for their production numbers of SS & TW's, and they said they don't release production numbers. Not saying I believe the 688 number one bit, but I do believe Canada has a different amount not included in USA's production numbers.
