I've got the 4eat, my bud has the 5mt

I like the laziness of driving in the auto, when I just gotta get somewhere, one hand, one foot, done...

I love the sound of the 5mt.. you can really hear the gears whining, as in all manual subarus, love that sound.

I'm perfectly fine with the auto in the snow.
With my Brand new good year ultra grip Ice tires I have a hard time to break it loose to the point where the ass end is forward.

9 - 3 deffinately, learned that in a driving course I took once. Long rides I go 6 or the gangsta lean when I'm bored.

Woot works done.

Scott - I guess you simply will not believe it can be done until you do it yourself. I HAVE done it myself, and it IS just a matter of technique and setup. Others have also done it themselves. The biggest difficulty, is being in the right part of the powerband to do it.

I have 2 videos of a MT BE drifting in an Auto-X that I could post if you are interested.

^^^ I'd like to see the videos if you don't mind, just to see them.

I know I'm not AWD so my techniques vary slightly but it is all about weight transfer, line, and timing. Being FWD I can't power on oversteer obviously but I can lift throttle oversteer easily (with speed) on gravel and in rain, with enough speed (only done this couple times) I can lift throttle oversteer on dry. I didn't used to be able to near as well as I can now, it just takes practice and I know your baby will do it for you Scott. You just gotta teach her.

Yea, that video is nuts. That car is sweet. I don't know what's done to it though. It doesn't sound like a JDM swap, doesn't rev high enough. Sounds interesting though, maybe a USDM WRX swap?

If these are the two vids of that green/silver/whatever color turbo BE with the stickers and shit on the side and ernie in the top left that's not on-power oversteer.

They are just general oversteerness in an MT AWD Legacy, but they look perfectly intentional and planned to me.

I wish I had video of on-power oversteer.

I thought the discussion was about on-power oversteer, not about lift-throttle oversteer, or braking to let the tail out, or turning the wheel too much to induce oversteer. Which is what that guy did.

I believe it started with me saying "I can predictably rotate the car in any number of ways, with little trouble of understeer." and Josh, and Matt both confirming that they can also do it.

On-power oversteer is just a matter of having enough power and the right technique. On power oversteer isn't always just slamming the gas to the floor in a RWD car and holding on.

Making a right turn at a stop light, rolling through the light in 1st, if I hit it and spool up, the rear WILL come out. Same with pulling a Uturn.

If you have a bit of power, go drive around a wet turn and get on the lead-pedal and see how the car behaves.

Ok, you guys are splitting hairs. Yes, that is a nice article Scott, but you gotta take it for what it is.

On a perfectly clean level surface, and a car with a perfectly functioning 50/50 split center differential, matching diffs front/back, and the exact same tire pressure and tire grip front and back... and you just hit the gas and turn the wheel. Yes, you will never power over-steer in theory because the fronts lose traction first. And that is the tendency of that setup.

Now lets get to real life. All you have to do is let your rear tires hit marbles on the edge of the road, all you have to do is lift-throttle, all you have to do is tap your brakes, and that throws that neat little theoretical situation out the window. Now your fronts have grip and the rears are loose and now you can on-power oversteer.

I too, have done it many times and can pretty much do it on will. It must be induced, someone that doesn't know about weight transfer and how to drive will not be able to do this. I don't really see the point of this argument.

No you can't purely power into oversteer with our cars. But you can induce it with simple car dynamics.

Sorry i didn't specify on throttle. Since you can make ANY CAR lift throttle oversteer, i didn't see it necessary to specify
