Keep in mind Phil that the insurance on a new STI for an under 25 male driver is going to be about 10-15 times more expensive, at least, then whatever you're paying on the Leggy. It's not just a car payment. The insurance per month will almost be as expensive as the car payment.

That's something I was concerned about also, espically considering that the Legacy is only 1k a year for me (which is why I can afford to keep the legacy on as a second car). I'll call and get a quote on it later this week.

I've actually stated in the past that I thought it was a waste to dump a lot of $$$ into these cars. I love my car but it's not feasible to spend all my spare money on 2k worth of exhaust etc.. I only painted my car because of the insurance company settlement I got. I don't want to go and spend money on my car that could be better spent on other things but that's just my point of view. At the moment, I'm considering selling my car for a small profit but I won't do it until I put in a modest intercooler and an FCD. Cheap mods are good but I'm not trying to push much over 200 hp. I don't like eating more gas than an SUV.

Honestly, I would keep the Legacy... but I wouldn't get an STi. You already have a turbo awd car. Go with something different.
RWD!!
Before my car incident with the Legacy, I was starting to feel the hell of having to replace parts. Then I got the Celica, and I've been spoiled with not having to do any major overhaul work on a car.
I must say it's very nice to just drive a car. With the occasional oil change...

I wouldn't mind a RWD car, that's for sure.
I actually went to Carmax today, and checked out a 2002 BMW 325xi. Not really my style though. I've never been much of a BMW man myself.
I also saw a Lexus IS300. Good price, low miles, but it was an automatic.
I'm gonna go looking tomorrow, but there's no real RWD cars that aren't the 350Z and G35 that I like. I don't want to spend THAT much on a car, the Track 350Z goes for 36-ish. To much.

Pick up a Track Z . . . ala 2001 or 2002, Phil.

See, that's my problem Art. I don't want a used performance car. I don't want something driven hard, with careless disregard for the well being of the car, and put away wet.
Not everyone who buys an STi, would take care of it like you or I would Art.
Would you buy an STi that's been tracked since it left the showroom. 30,000 miles, and 6 sets of tires, 7 sets of brake pads, and seen more Rev's above 5000 RPM, than below? I wouldn't. I want to be the one to do that stuff to it, because I don't trust other people very easily.

Just to clarify, I do like the concept of tuning a legacy, otherwise I wouldn't be here. I guess what I'm really saying is that if one wants mod out their car it's great but I'd personally prefer to have a garage so I could do the things I want myself rather than having someone else do the work. It would still cost money but, depending on what you want, it would be significantly cheaper.

Just something to note, a friend of mine bought a brand new dodge dakota crew cab. A week later, the tranny went. (of course it is a chrysler product)
I am all for the new car idea, and you understand the costs involved. There's a plus and minus for each choice.
If you do change your mind, i know of a very dependable "beater" that has no problems thats for sale. a 99 toyota camry that is pretty fun and super stock, except for the muffler.

I have a 98 Forester S now.
I ALMOST just got an 04 STi (13k!) but backed out thanks to insurance.
The Forester is fun. The only original part is the engine (at 181k). Brand new tranny, all new suspension, modded brakes, and only 4 original bushings left in the whole car (both engine mounts and the front, front control arm bushings).
It's slow, way slower than my Legacy, but it's a lot of fun.

A Vietnam vet I know from VT drives a Forester. He loved 'Nam because he got to kill people. He now has a garden so that he can call himself a farmer and thus be able to shoot deer unlimited all year. From his back porch. He's trying to get a .50 machine gun with belt feed so when he hits them, they basically explode. He looks like a really skinny Santa. He's more of a misanthrope than I am and he's definitely not a lesbian.
