turbo melting wires in stock setup?

That spinning thing that makes all of the cool noises. OE and Aftermarket.

PS to verify my exhaust isn't wreaking havoc...

I'm just buying the standard Autometer Pyrometer KIT for 1600F. I'm assuming that's cool, but somebody chime in if there's something stupid with that choice.

That's pretty much the EGT setup that I have, only the gauge face is white. It's a good EGT. Unfortunately I think the majority of that range is wasted, because when driving normally you only use the 2nd half of the gauge.

I'm not sure what target EGTs are, but our cars like to keep things around 1500* F under boost conditions. I'd personally like to see an EGT gauge that read from say 900*F - 1800*F, this way your operating range will be in the gauge's accuracy range, and if you go over 1600*F you can see exactly how FAR over 1600*F you went. Just a thought. Unfortunately I already have my gauge installed, and haven't seen any gauges like I'm talking about, so ... um.... nevermind? lol

Random update

Bottom line - The problem seems to have gone away, so I am just writing this to close the book on this one. Sorry that the thread gets bumped if I want to add this info.

* Boost is right
* EGTs are right
* checked the harness after all kinds of driving: it's never been too hot or too cold
* it hasn't melted any more since I started investigating
* Swapped ECU, no change of behavior
* never any AC leaks
* no mystery fluid ever found on it

So, it's still a mystery but who cares because all the stuff that really matters is checking out.
