An EQ could possibly hook into it as well, but it's definitely for a CD. See the following:

All three BC Legacies I had had more or less the same stereo (the '91 had an aux in jack on the front while the two '93 models didn't). I was pretty sure they were Panasonic. The speakers were Clarion, though. The 13-pin DIN connector on the back was for a CD player that had its own controls.

i guess ill post my stereo setup. Id offer pics, but im really far to lazy (id like to claim modest) to take any.

First, it is all manually powered, the ignition wire to the radio goes to a switch where the air ride would be to turn the radio on. (FANTASTIC MOD)

I put 6x9s in the back mounted on a round 1 foot particle board with a hole cut out and covered in denim (blue interior) looks pretty good.

The fronts are extra deep 6.25s that have been custom mounted using screws that are custom drilled, then wrapped in cardboard around the edge of the speaker, which is then epoxied.

I got all my stuff off ebay, i have a 200w clarion head (poopy) and some sweet 4 ways in the back and compression horns in the front. All pioneer.

Id give lots more details, but im much too tired, if anyone is interested in instructions, let me know.

Its been awhile...

Any updates on if a newer add on would work? And I almost had that one on ebay, but I backed off (my ebay ID is carfire03)

Add-on OEM CD player compatibility

I meant to follow up on this a long time ago...

Yes, it seems that all the later single din add-on CD players work with the early stock 1.5 din 80 Watt Panasonic (I thought mine was Clarion, but I was smoking crack) head units. I picked up a brand new one on ebay ($50!) that was for a later '90's Impreza and it plugged right in. Right afterwards, my wife's friend totalled her '96 Outback and he pulled the CD player which is the later style Legacy unit that attaches to the single din Panasonic head unit and it has the same connections as well. I didn't plug it in and try it, but I'm assuming that it will work. They all seem to be interchangeable.

PS- I can take a picture of my setup if anyone is interested in seeing it. Let me know.

Neat.

So they use a 13-pin DIN connector?

That also means that you can add an aux in to later Subaru head units too... cool.

I'm not sure if it's 13 pin, but that seems about right. And yes, you should be able to add an aux input. That would be handy.
