you cant oversteer in snow??
try giving it a flick and if that doesnt work take off your front swaybar, get a big rear one, and/or get some wagon springs.
snow is definiitely my favorite thing to drive in, esp. with RE92's with bad tread and wagon suspension/agx's maxed in the rear. opposite lock around every corner. also romping in over a foot of fresh pow is awesome.
Just don't do neutral drops or power launches in a 4EAT, okay? Good.

JAson- You can't get oversteer? The only time I get understeer in the snow is if I just plow into a corner on throttle or hit the brakes.
To get understeer just enter the turn off throttle and then goose the throttle. You should get throttle induced oversteer at this point and you can feather the throttle to stay in. Don't hammer the throttle though or you'll probably lose it. If you get out of control just go off throttle (don't brake) and you should straighten out. Go to a snow covered parking lot and practice.
No need to touch your sway bars or springs IMO.

Yea, you can also oversteer in the rain or just wet pavement doing the same thing Matt described. It is fun, practice in an empty parking lot first. And dry spots suck!

With the 4EAT torque split, getting on the throttle in a low speed turn can easily induce understeer in the snow.
Using a flick to get that oversteer sweetness is easier.
from a stop i dont have enough power to start to over or understeer, once turbo hits the front wheels spin and then the back end doesnt have a chance to come out. from a roll the flick could work but havent had enough time to try it

I just went 90 for the first time, always got congested roads down here...
at 90mph I was at 3750RPM normal?
so at 120 5500RPM??
You guys really wind them that high through the gears with out problems? It gets really loud around 3750rpms....
poor ol cars...
The automatics dont seem to react as well to lift-throttle oversteer, in my experience. The auto dampens the weight transfer. Since they don't have as delicate touch on-throttle as a stick, it's probably unwise to stick a huge rear sway bar on the back and just deal with the car being more tail happy but allowing lift throttle oversteer.
There's my big complaint about autos.

That sounds about right. After my new engine I checked out everything good and then had to know just once what it could do, 120 and climbing (ran out of room) and it was definately reving high (don't remember exactly). Since though it's been a while since I've seen over 90. If you think about it, you want to be at peak power and torque levels at high speed.

I'm usually at 4000 Rpms with my 5MT at 90mph...

I hit somewhere arround 140 once. It was on the way back from the feed and speed, not the last one but the one before. Will (brat4by4) and I were driving back and we came across a brand new BMW 760i! Know of course if he wanted to he could have killed us. He does have a V12 sporting 438hp and 444 lbs/ft. But he just wanted someone to roll with evidently. So all 3 of us would make our way thru traffic and find some open stretch and drop the hammer. I rode last in the line so I had much less wind resistance. I looked down at 133 mph and decided to keep my eyes on the road as I was continuing to accelerate.
Probably one of the funest and dumbest things I've ever done.

Oh yeah, 4eat. Well, that's your guys first mistake.
Getting oversteer with the 5mt is incredibly easy. Like Jared said, same technique I posted above works on wet pavement too. Actually, I can do it on dry pavement also but only because I'm modded. I couldn't do it on dry pavement stock.

im well aware of the manual tranny's ability to power oversteer and flick. i autox's an sti and it took me by extreme suprise at its ability to power oversteer. its great to see everyone look like the kid from home alone as i slid into the finish. (timing boxes were kinda borked and were kinda close together.)
btw top of third gear flat out in a parking lot is really really freakin cool/scarry/fun

Hmm?? any ideas
does that mean I can go faster in my ol legacy than your outback??
Stock suspension. I have some GR2's w/Tein springs that I have yet to install because I need new upper perches for them. That and time, which I have none.
I could do it on stock power but it would require a pretty good flick and a lot of throttle to do it. That or a lot of speed in the turn and do a lift throttle, tap brake, on throttle induced oversteer.
With the increased power I can be in a turn nice and mellow and then as long as I'm in the meat, I can easily do an on throttle only induced oversteer.

They aren't that quick, I raced one with my 16G a couple times. It was pretty even with me pulling a little from a roll, and absolute murder from a stop.
