Eating a lot of rice is a good way to gain weight.

It's funny because people that are trying to gain weight are supposed to eat 5 or 6 times a day, that way the body absorbs as much nutrients as possible and it keeps your sugar levels relatively stable.

You'll probably want to stay away from complex sugars and sources of carbohydrates as much as possible. Pasta's, rice, potatos and such.

If you really want to lose weight, become a vegetarian, I personally would rather end it all before giving up meat.

My roomate is a vegetarian and he is thin as crap. He has really strong bones too. He took a fall skating in Louisville park's full pipe from the over vert about 13 ft up and didnt break anything. And let me tell you, he was going so freaking fast. All he did was bruise himself up, cut up his face and shoulder and strain or tear a muscle in his shoulder. Nothing broken, it's a wonder how he survived. So maybe vegetarianism isnt that bad after all... I could never give up chicken wings tho.
And for you skateboardingly challenged folks out there, a full pipe is exactly what it sounds like a full pipe, like a water duct or pipe. And what can be described as over vert is where it would start to transition back upwards, or past where a half pipe would stop.

Sorry to get back on topic but what are your plans?
I think I just about have it all figured out for my circumstances. And how do you want to keep track of weight loss? How long of a period do you want to do it over? I think a contest to kick it off would help to keep you regular in eating right and excercising for the first few months. Something like whoever can lose the biggest percentage of their desired weight in a 3 or 4 month period wins or something like that. How does that sound?

That's a good question.

I'm trying to consume at least 5k calories a day for a week to see what effect it has on me.

But you should keep track of your progress.

I used to be totally cut, strong as hell and healthy as a horse......then I quit smoking. Now I'm about 75 lbs overweight, have insanely high blood pressure (on meds for that now! ) have horrible joint pain, leg pain, back pain, foot pain, ankle pain ect... It's funny because the docs keep telling me I'm better off now and healthier but I could run miles before and now I could barely run a city block without probably puking.

I actually lost my self in the mirror the other night (you'd think I was trippin' or something! haha) . I looked in the mirror and for some reason it was like I was seeing myself how I am now for the first time and I was completely disgusted. I realized that since I gained the weight I wasn't actually looking at myself anymore (not that I stood around staring at myself before) because I didn't like what I saw. I'd just brush my hair and look only at my hair, or brush my teeth and look only at my teeth. It's a very strange feeling to look in the mirror one day and see someone you don't know, a stranger. A fat, nasty stranger. I can't do any of the things I used to love anymore (except music). During my tranny swap I was actually having a hard time getting my fat ass under the car! It was horrible. I try to loose weight but it just doesn't work. You'd think that if I could quit smoking (3 pack a day) after 16 years I could control what I eat but food is just about the only pleasure I derive from life anymore (besides my loving children) so it very hard. I try to tell myself to do it for my kids but it doesn't work.

You know, they used to call me Phatty because I went so big in everything I did (ski/snowboarding, skateboarding, BMX, ect..) now it's more like Fatty, because that's what I am....I don't go big at all because I'm too damn big to do it anymore.

I went from a stud to a dud.

the louisville park is insane. I am a bmxer but I hope to ride it one day. fullpipes are my favorite thing to ride, but the only ones I have ridden are sketchy metal pipe like 10' in diameter.

I like vegies...but not enough to stop eating animals.

I don't think I am going to diet as most people would do. I'm not going to change too much but for the most part I am going to exercise more and eat less. Less soda, more green tea. Lots of meat, salad. and rice.

I've already begun the chalange. I took on another project at work so it might be harder as I will not be home to eat but at the same time it might be easier as I won't have time to eat.

I just have to stick with it.

Matt - Don't get too down on yourself brother. It happens to us all. We all can get caught up with routine everyday things in life and loose track of some things, even if its ourselves that we loose track of. It's like they say, life happens. All things inevitably are going to; change, break or need to be replaced, go wrong, or get left behind. The trick is staying ahead of the game by making sure that you and yours stay happy.

Jeremy - Louisville is a blast. Its one of those pinacles the east coast park skating (not exactly east cost but darn close.) Now if you want some true east cost skating, i mean sketchy east coast dont skate this or you will die stuff, check out Skatopia. It's in southern ohio and it is probably one of the sketchiest parks to ride ever. Nothing is simple or clean and everything is surrounded by three feet of vert.

Dan - A record will be a good idea both for motivation and tracking. I think at the end I would share the record with everyone.

isnt skatopia that 13' deep bowl in some guys barn and is pretty much a skate commune? I had an old issue of thrasher where there was an article about that place which I think was called skatopia. I used to skate too, but its not as fun as bmx, which I am way better at, and my ankles are trashed which is no good for skating. between soccer and bikes I have sprained probably 10 times. I am gonna have some wicked bad arthritis when I am old.
this summer I am going to take some vacation and do a park tour, havent decided whether to head east or to oregon.

That is an awesome idea!! Where do they store girls like you anyway? :)

Matt - Yeah, what subawho said. I'll bet that now you've had your revelation you'll slowly climb back down to where you ought to be. I'm not going to get all pretentious on your ass and tell you to do this or that. I'll just say that imagine what you'd like to look like all the time and you'll get there. When I peaked out at 230 I felt the same way. I'm at 198 and holding steady for over two years now. Besides, you've got a whole hell of a lot going for you compared to some dorky skinny guy.

Well skatopia does have a bunch of other sketchy stuff to skate, it is most popular for the huge downhill (yes downhill) bowl with a 13-14 ft deep end that has oververt. A work of art, a death trap, a skate haven for the deranged and gnarly. People pitch tents and sleep there, wild packs of dogs inhabbit some parts. It is beautiful. And it's all on the private property, out in the middle of nowhere, of this guy named Bruce. He is intense and rips. He has a crew that travel in a beat up old limo to skate other parks in the winter. They pretty much are the heshest bunch you will ever see. They aren't east coast hard core, East coast hardcore is them.
IMO, Tony Hawk completely ripped them off in his last game, american wasteland. It's a shame.
