Re: EJ20G "RobTune" Info - Updated Dyno Results

Went back to the Dyno w/a full 3" TBE exhaust, Mopar coil pack (Neon) and tighter plug gap (.028").
I don't trust the #'s, especially since Mustang dynos are known to read low. I'm not dissing the tuner or the shop, the car just doesn't feel THAT quick or fast. But I've not ridden in anything else comparable - turbo or NA- recently (I keep missing my local Auto-X weekends due to scheduling conflicts where I usually do 'ride-alongs' to learn the course).
Summary:
Run 1
HP: 229 HP
Torque: 309 ft-lbs
Run 2
HP: 219 HP
Torque: 287 ft-lbs
For comparison, graphs and more info added to original post on Page 21 about 1/3rd down

That's unfortunate that you weren't able to retest on the same exact dyno. But... The car is running well and chasing down a couple hot cars sounds like fun!

That is a pretty large discrepency between HP & torque.

Nice numbers wtdash! I have a very similar setup to you but with a GT28 installed vs the TD05. Good to know the car really has some power! Not just my but dyno.
So i have been checking out on some pages back there has been a few people having VERY fast flashing CEL when driving/idling.
I too have had this odd behavior from my car also.
Although when it happened i have ZERO issue with the car. Drove ok at all times and at all speeds.
Now i only had this add flashy CEL on these conditions:
-30C or colder
highway speeds over 80kms
My CEL would be gone the moment i shut the car off and restarted.
I never checked what the CEL was but it cleared out so i really did not care.
Yes you did read that correct. -30C!
I have been REALLY putting this tune to the test and its GOOD!
This passed winter on the coldest day of -40C+ ALL the other cars i own did not start or keep running on these days, BUT my tricked 93 SS with rob tune!
Sorry about the off topic sorry there.
Now for this flashy CEL
I found that pod filters did not work for me?
I found that it had to do with the MAF and the air hitting the MAF.
All i did to my car was clean the MAF, replace the air filter.
BTW i have the stock air box with the snork ON! I only did the coffee cup mod and now things seem good?
I drove the car for probably about 2 months after this with 1 maybe 2 encounters of it. And i think that was from some thing else anyways.
I found it to be of some success so im going to leave it that way.
Also.....
Makes the engine bay look sleeper too!

pretty close to my numbers. But your torque is way higher. Curious why.

You and me (and JC) both. Doesn't make sense.

Anyone know how/why the Rob tune makes the cool burbly and popping noises on decel? I've realized the stock 20G ECU doesn't, and it makes his tune sound waaaaay more aggressive.

Probably because the tune is richer than stock.

But don't the injectors cut on decel?

They should unless Rob has that turned off or tweaked a little bit.
It may be due to unburnt fuel in the exhaust piping/turbo, etc.

One Step Colder Plugs with 550 tune.
After 2 dyno runs (see above) and 2 tuners telling me to try it, I installed a set of the NGK BKR7E, an Innovate LC-1 wide-band, and loaded up my Evoscan software. (Evoscan can read the LC-1 directly.)
Plug gap is .028".
Here's a
LINK to an Excel file w/the log - basic RPM, AFR, and MAF. I added a column for Gear (1st - 4th) that should be close. (my) Evoscan doesn't read boost properly, so not included.
Max boost is set by MBC to 18psi.
Looks good to me, but I'm still a noob to tuning/logging.

Not to my butt dyno. Probably will not get it dyno'd again anytime soon.

Todd,
What are the units of the data in the MAF column, volts, g/s??

EDIT2. It's labeled 'Hz', but it's Volts based on the equation.

Here are my dyno results on the rob 550 tune.. (Record maybe?) This is on 17psi. With actual road load I'm safe to 22psi with my svx maf (also bumped up fuel psi)
305.6 HP @ 6,250 rpm, 265.1 ft-lbs @ 5,720 rpm
301.3 HP @ 6,190 rpm, 270.4 ft-lbs @ 5,680 rpm
284.1 HP @ 6,170 rpm, 261.1 ft-lbs @ 5,300 rpm

305whp, nice!

Closed deck 2.2 turbo block, 97 legacy outback 25d heads with a 20g intake manifold. Tdo6 20g with a massive fmic.. I also run a svx blue label jecs maf with slightly bumped up fuel psi.. This was on a dynocom dyno known as "the ball buster" (dynocom dynos read about 40hp lower then a dynojet or mustang dyno). Was running 305whp @17psi (can run 22psi safely with actual road load)..
So let's say 10hp per psi (pretty standard), at 22psi I'd be making around 350whp.. Very pleased I am!

Very nice!!
Can you edit that original post w/your dyno plots to show your #'s and your specs there for posterity? There are so many of these on NASIOC (and some here) that get 'lost' when the user moves on. (I wish we could 'attach' photos like some other Subie sites.)
Hopefully a Admin will edit those pics for us too.
And, yes, I think you've got the record.

I wish my first run was on there. My first pull was 282whp on 14psi. I forgot I had my boost turned down from high way mobbin (MBC)..
Anyways at 282 @ 14, and 305 @ 17, that's 7.6 HP per psi.. So add 5psi worth of 7.6 (7.6x5=38.3hp) to my already 305 and that's 340@ the wheels on 22 psi (witch I do run)

What does a stock STI put down on this shop's dyno?
Mustang is usually the lower reading of the dynos.....aka the 'heart breaker dyno'.
