Something to note is that most peoples' email services potentially have many of the same "flaws" as the ones that site points out...
Email's extremely insecure to begin with, so I generally follow the rule that if I really don't want everyone to hear it, I won't say it in an email. That's good advice no matter who provides your email service.
But anyway, if anyone doesn't want to deal with Gmail, that's his/her prerogative. You just have to weigh your concerns against your desire to contact the individual who's using Gmail.
