I'm using a very fine, very thin file. I finished up the rears, just making that angled edge clean again. The fronts are going to take something else all together. I'm not chipping it (i don't think) but on the rears I did file down until i got to metal, which made them look raw.

Cleaned out the piston bore with a rag sprayed with brake cleaner. I hope that's ok, but i don't see why it wouldn't be. There's a few light rust spots in the bores, should i be concerned?

Yeah brake cleaner is fine. You can try and lightly sand down the rust spots with the emery cloth or sand paper. Make sure to clean it out again.

Thanks Josh. They might just be odd discolorations or whatever. they don't even really seem to have texture. In any case i'm putting the calipers back together soon. Any tips on that?

Getting the boots on is going to suck....there's just no way to sugar coat it. You're just going to have to see what works best and whether you can get the boot started before you put the piston in, or wether putting the piston in all the way is better and then you just have to work the outerboot seal in around the caliper piston. Make sure to put some brake flud on the piston when inserting it so it doesn't tear up the seal. Don't put too much or you could create a mess with the clean calipers.

Really like what you did with the calipers, must of us just paint them or leave them to rust. But the sticker is a very nice/classy touch and you didnt have to pay for Brembos or 4/2 pots to get them!

True.but you're getting close to the price of some used 4 pot 2 pots. But I bet these work just as well and they're essentially new.

Thanks Tony. But yeah, Kimo's right. Parts for everything was like 450 or 500. But then came vanity stuff, and i'm just over 6. Granted, 30 or so of that is simply cleaners and paint and what not, but powder coating didn't set me back too much, it's just all the little vanity things added up. like 80 dollars in vanity and cleaning.

now was that for just the calipers, paint, sticker, seals? Or is that everything, pads, rotors, ETC? Cause I know when I get my 4/2 pots on plan on spending about 1000 for everything.

oh lol. It was for calipers, ss lines, pads, rotors, fluid, powder coating, paint, stickers, cleaner, seals.

Getting 4/2 pots would require spending at least a few more hundred on wheels.

The seal is actually the sealing surface, so while it would be good to clean the rust out, I don't think it's absolutely mandatory.

I was hoping you wouldn't ask that lol. Ultimately, i decided to take them to my mechanic for the rebuild. I don't mind futzing around with trim and things like that, or even slightly less mechanical things, but peoples' safety rides on the brakes, and not being technically experienced enough to do it without second guessing myself made it seem like the proper choice to have someone skilled do it.

I agree....if it's something you don't feel comfortable doing, then it's probably best off to let your mechanic or someone qualified do the work.
