Okay guys, help me out...

Is this okay? I checked my tranny oil today with the car sitting in Neutral and engine running, coz I'm pretty sure that's how you're supposed to do it. But the level was waaaaaay above where it should be, and it was full of bubbles. Did someone tell me wrong when they said check tranny oil at temp with engine running? Or do I have another tranny issue?

Dude, I noteiced the same thing recently when I checked my trans fluid due to an irregualt 2-3 shift (my 2-3 shift is usually very laggy, but sometimes quite normal, and my 1-2 and 3-4 shifts are both firm). So I too wonder, why the bubbles? Mine are not foamy bubbles, just a good number of 1-2mm bubbles. making it impossible to get a read on the fluid level (which seems high too).

The procedure I read involved shifting slowly from Park to 1 and back to Park, then leaving it running and checking.

Dunno about the bubbles tho.

Dont try to find a level. Just have the car warm and running on a flat surface. Remove the stick and wipe. Reinsert so that it wont go in any farther and pull out. Look at the holes. If a film of liquid exists it is beyond that point. The optimum level is bottom three dots filled while the top dot is NOT filled.

Bubbles is called foaming, it is quite common as the oil ages, due to water in the oil from condensation.

This foaming issue is more common if you have added tranmission additives to the oil, which is why people do not recomend doing this.

I would recomend removing the oil and replacing it.

First of all, I am talking about my manual tranny oil, so these Park to 1st things don't apply to me. And ciper, I have two holes on the dipstick, not three.

Submannz, welcome to the forum. Read my stickied thread in this forum about synchronizer issues. I have just replaced my tranny oil but a month ago. It's a blend between Redline MT-90 (GL4) and Redline 75W90NS (GL5). It was recommended to me by someone with the same difficulties. I added nothing to the oil.

Well, I have no problems shifting it now, and I haven't checked the tranny oil since, so I'm gonna assume it was a fluke. She was probably grumpy that day
