Quarter Mile Times

I ran a 15.904 @ 85.6 mph. 60 ft was a low 1.9
My very first run ever with the car was beautiful. I was staged against a brand spankin new bright red Toyota Celica. Pulling up into the lanes the driver looked at my car funny. I was thinking you're gonna get it, buddy. Light turns green I pull a car length from him before he even starts to move (the beauty of AWD). Second gear I pull even farther. Third gear I pull from him all the way to the line and smash him by over one second. But it's such a cute sports car....
Car is stock except for K&N air-filter, Clutch, & Exedy 12.8 Flywheel. Also has WRX 16" wheels with the stock Potenza RE-92 tires.
I am very stoked... I have a 15 second car! The times will be dropping quickly though. I have an air-water intercooler sittin in my room for it. Tires will go on next ($$$ sighhhh.... my tread is getting low). Then turbo-back exhaust, which I can't wait to get on! Then possibly a TD05-16G.
I'll probably run it twice more this summer (after intercooler). I try not to abuse my stuff ...too much

. Oh, and you guys that keep street-racing all these cars, go to a drag strip and get a verifiable number. Just don't run too many runs in a day and let your car cool in between each run. Drag strips seem to get a bad reputation from all the kids that go there and blow their stuff up, be smart about it.
Anyone else have numbers on their car?

Thats sounds about right for a stock car. Published numbers are 16 on the dot for the Legacy Turbo Sedan. Have fun modding!

How do you guys typically get good off the line starts in these cars. I know a lot of people will rev their engine to like three grand and then drop the clutch to get a good jump. I haven't done that yet cause 1) I don't want to kill my clutch and 2) I dont' want to put tooo much strain on the driveline and all that.
When your drag racing or whatever, do you guys just do a normal start, is that how your getting such good take offs or are you actually doing the rev and drop the clutch thing.
I'm only talking about manual transmissions also.

I did my clutch with the heavy-duty pressure plate and kevlar disc, so I let that take the abuse... for now. Dropping the clutch completely is definitely not good cuz 1. you'll bog down 2. you might turn your gears into metal sprinkles. Slipping the clutch is preferred, and if your clutch can't take it, then the drag strip is not a good place to go. Unless you wanna drive easy let it engage then hammer it and shift... quickly. First gear is such a beast, i'd be scared to get a manual boost controller that lets it see full boost.

I haven't been to the strip yet, but I've done a few stop light runs with her. I have an auto so launching's a little different. most people have a hard time keeping it stopped since the engine wants to over-torque the brakes. when you're at a standstill, shift in to neutral and press as hard as you can on the brakes. rev the engine a few times to build up vacuum. you'll feel the brake pedal sink deeper into the floor. keep the brakes there and shift back into 1 or D. put the gas to the floor and let the revs and boost rise. I usually let it climb to 3500 RPMs andlet off the brakes while still at WOT. depending on the road conditions she'll spin the wheels a tiny bit, then just run. in the dry, the tires will spin about 1/2 turn, and in the wet they may spin a full rotation or so.
fun fun

Having a tranny that's 187,000 miles worn I can't say that I like the idea of launching hard . . . this is the only car I've got
But I do ease in an idle start off the line then roll on the throttle, then somewhat granny shift (let the revs drop to the right spot in the rpm range for the higher gear), and then roll onto full throttle again.
I've never had any problems beating most people out there using this method and *knock on wood*, tranny is still shifting fine

With stock clutch, I made conservative launches. Also, I've only been driving a 5 speed for a little over a month.
16.3 @ 81.9mph with 2.17 60ft
TD05 is on it's way. That and an exhaust should bring me down a bit.

Dude, if your running the stock re-92 that is a GREAT time!! The stock WRX wheels are larger diameter, meaning you are getting worse gearing.

Define "worse". Any shorter and I'd be redlining in 3rd. Which means i'll be losing power after 5500, i dread the day that my car is fast enough to require a shift into 4th... I know I could have pulled a 15.8xx cuz i left my heater on for that run (accessory = drag on alternator, etc.). And it's a relatively crappy track that we go to, so the car is possibly a 15.7xx car on a better track. The world-class track that is actually closer to us is always over-packed and they are Nazi's checkin under your hood and following their rules to the T. The track we run is great on tuesday nights and they are very laid back.
So no one else has had their car on a track, ever?

No, but last year before my AWD shit out, and with 11psi I was dead even with a Acura 3.2CL Type-S which supposedly runs 14.7...
And this year with no AWD and 17psi, I was slightly ahead of an SRT-4 which supposedly runs 14.2...
Yeah, I know that none of that means jack shit....

I should have some numbers for you soon, week maybe two depending on the weather. I just have to say I'll probably launch at 45-5500 rpm

and I'm not going to "dump the clutch" A lot of slip is how to launch a turbo.

UPDATE:
Didn't know I had a boost leak until i went to the track. Turns out, the intercooler pipe from the turbo has been leaking. I got it fixed for one run.
15.68 @ 85.7 w/ 2.13 60'
The pipe is still giving me problems. I need to find a more permanant solution.

Wow, my previous car did a sub 16 run, that's impressive.
I never noticed the clutch was bad when I drove it, never raced the car nor gave it bull boost. Besides there are no hills in NYC/metro NJ so I wouldn't know. After you replaced the clutch, does the pedal still feel heavy? That was the problem for me really.
The speedometer discrepancy you mentioned at another post was caused by the taller WRX tires, plus the gauge cluster has been replaced before, must be either of the above or both. Therefore, you think you are getting sh*tty MPG but in fact you are not. Your mileage rolls 10% slower approximately.
At what RPM did you shift gear?
Do you have a Boost controller?

Last run of 20 turned in a 16.858 80.09 and the 60' was 2.296. Beat quite a few cars on the 60 due to the awd. Then they smoked me! What a blast.!!!

Went again with no changes. Still running 20W-50 oil (don't ask... i have the 10W-30 for it right here). Balding Re-92's. Pulled a 15.862 with a 2.1xx 60' time. I am very ecstatic that it is now in the 15.8's completely "stock" (<-- who has to know about a clutch?). Battery relocation is under way and air-water intercooler should be on soon. Fully functional air-water system within a couple of weeks.
By the way.... 20 drag strip runs is baaaaaad. You might get consistent times, but your entire engine bay is heat SOAKED. It's not like the highway where you keep going after you are done going fast and have fresh air constantly running through the engine bay. I have a 3 run window to try and get my fastest time. After that the car would have to sit for hours to cool everything down (engine, tranny, etc...). And i let the car sit at least 45 minutes in between those 3 runs. But if you are just racing friends or whatnot... have fun. Just know that your times will get slower (unless it gets significantly cooler) and you are stressing the car.

Actually, every run was essentially better than the last. Remember this is NOT a turbo. And as the night went on, it got cooler and cooler. I did spring a crack in the upper radiator hose on Sunday while autocrossing but i doubt that the drags had anything to do with it.
I know I shouldnt go back again this friday but I think I will cause I want to race my brothers Jetta. 360 hp. AT THE WHEELS. Fucking fast car. But we want to know HOW fast it is.

i only did this twice in a year and a half, afraid of the effects, honestly, my previous car, 2002 wrx 5speed, revved to 4000 (the torque peak) and dumped the clutch, on stock re 92 tires, the fronts left black marks maybe 15 feet long, the rears about 5 feet, on a hot summer day.
It was an incredible launch!!
Soon after i got 215 45-17s, and was frankly afraid to abuse the car on the much stickier rubber. Something is bound to break
Of course my current 95 5 speed wagon can only spin those same 17" wheels and tires when the ground is covered with snow.

I ran a about 16 in my 4EAT turbo, same as my friends 210 hp Tsi Talon, and I really want to quarter mile it again since I put my WRX IC in.

"about" 16?
any real numbers?
