There are so many variables to this question.

1. what kinda turbo?
2. what kinda fueling mods?
3. what kinda engine management?
4. what's a standard intercooler?

ok....lol I thought I could be vague but I guess not.

ok, i will be getting a vf23 and I wanted to be maxing out at 20 lbs of boost. I will be doing whatever fuel mods necissary to make this possible. Basically I have the option of getting a 02' wrx TMIC but I do not want to go with it if it wont handle the high flow rate and high temps of runnig that much boost. I was planning on doing a FMIC.

I would always recommend a fmic on our cars since the hoodscoop is pretty small, however, you shouldn't have a problem running 20psi off a wrx intercooler as long as your fueling is in check.

What you have to realize is that the wrx intercooler has something like a 2psi pressure drop, or something along those lines, so there are better intercoolers out there, if you're really looking for the best setup. But if your budget is limited, I say you should be fine. My Sti v2 intercooler is smaller than the usdm wrx one, and I'm fine with running 16.9psi through it. No problems so far.

that's a nice question..

I wanted to post almost the same question ..

with my setup : Weird Audi Top-mount IC, Stock Turbo, Stock injectors but Holly 255l/hr fuel pump, MBC or electronic controler ...

would my 15-16psi target will be "safe" or it's pushing the luck a bit ?

the psi that you're running is out of the efficiency of the stock turbo.

It'd also be wise for you to get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator w/ that whole setup.

what is that efficiency limit? that's the info i'm looking for.

I know there is another topic in the turbo section debating on that info. People seems to say that 16-17-20 psi is ok for our turbo, but there is no "official" info.

if you have any, please share them with us ! :)

okay, our turbo is similar in size to a stock wrx turbo. maybe just smaller. the wrx turbo on a 2.0l can only be run up to about 16psi effeciently. if you reason on it, really, our 2.2l & the little IHI rhb5 is only effective up to about 14psi.

too many variables to answer wihout listing all your mods and what type of block it is, is it open or close decked?

closed deck of course :)

as far as I have been told, If you can keep the intake temps down and the fuel up to it, you can run as much as you want until the head gasket lets go.

Limit on the turbo or the block? I think he wanted the limit of the turbo. I'd say get a temp probe after the turbo. Or run it at the track, keep raising the boost every run untill it doesn't get any faster.
