Im kind of new at this, so please forgive me if this question has
been asked before.


I got a used subaru 1990 , with 80k miles, and I loved it. Had it
for about 2 year, and i drive about 10-11k a year on californias
freeways. At about 90k I stopped to get an oil change at these new
place, and they told me I have a ripped left boot, that has to be
replaced. No biggy, payed about 100 bucks, and the left boot was
replaced at 90k miles. Now I was driving around, and i keep on
hearing this popping sound everytime i turn left. I checked under the
car, and behold...the left boot was ripped again!!I checked odometer,
and it read 97k miles.

I read a while ago(cant remember where) that subaru of my year 1990
2 wheel drive had problems with air conditioning. Is it possible the
same model has a bad design, which rips the boot frequently?Or it is
just who did the job puting the boot , did it incorrectly? If it is
not a job, is there anything I can do, to stop the boot from ripping?
Any suggestions would be trully appreciative~. What will happen if I
dont replace a boot right away..:p (im the 6% statistic now)

It sounds like they did not do the boot properly.....or didn't do it at all. There's no faulty thing that I know of. I have a 90 FWD legacy. I had about 150,000 on my car when the boots wore out. They were replaced by the dealer.

I would recommend getting a complete subaru reman axle. The rubber for the CV boots are thicker and tougher then some of the aftermarket axles.

It's not worth rebuilding the axles.....just get a new one.

As for the A/C.....never heard anything about that.....I've really got no issues with mine. I think the clutch is making some noise, but the system still runs and cools fine.....did recharge it though.....now it cools VERY good.

Balance your wheels all the time, it prevents CV/bearing/suspension
bushing failure. I have 147000miles and I think the CV joints are
original.

What causes failure of cv axles is dirt and water getting in there and
chewin the bearings up. If the boots last a very long time....so will
the joints.

reman? what is that, and when should i go dealer?What
should i tell them that i need to do?u thin ki can go
back to the place who did it, with a reciett and tell
them to do it for free??

Finger is doin fine. It wasn't cancer, just a benign tumor.

Reman, remanufactured.

What I would recommend is this. First, go back to the place you had the
work done, tell (show) them the boot is torn....tell them this would not
have failed in 7,000 miles if it were done properly, and that you want
the axle and boot repaired/replaced. See what they say. If they say to
pound sand, you could possibly fight it....however it's probably not
worth your time and money.

If they are willing to fix it.....let them fix it. If they are not
willing to fix it, I would suggest going some place else. Either go to
a reputable mechanic that someone else recommends, or go to a local
dealer. Dealer is going to more expensive usually.....however the work
should get done properly.

As for your axle. It sounds like it's toast. I would bother having an
independent shop or the dealer try and rebuild it. Purchase a
remanufactured axle, either subaru, or go here http://www.cvaxles.com
Then just have the mechanic or the dealer put the axle in.

If your wheel is out of balance, all suspension components will shake
violently at highway speed. The boot of the CV normally lasts for a
long time, but imagine it being shaken constantly on the highway for
a long time. Eventually the boot loosens and dirt gets in, same goes
for bearing and suspension bushing. My car always have their wheels
balanced and i have never had to replace the CV despite high mileage.
