Yech! Liquid filled motor mounts...

What liquid are liquid filled motor mounts filled with?

I swapped out my engine and tranny mounts yesterday with a fresh set of GDA mounts. The tranny mount was sheared completely. One engine mount was sheared completely (which made removing it much more simple).

I cut the other stock legacy engine mount apart, and it was filled with a brackish, greenish liquid. Consistency near water. What was it?

My guess is that it's some hydraulic fluid that doesn't mind heat.

Stock mounts on any of the 1G cars should definitely be replaced, as they're at least 9 years old now.

I used stock WRX mounts. They're a huge improvement, if only because they're new, fresh rubber... and not torn in half

It really didn't feel like any type of hydraulic oil... but, then again, I've never played with 12+ yr old hydraulic oil...

I would definitely recommend the STi mount for the tranny. Tightens everything up real good, much firmer shifts and such. STi engine mounts... they add some noise and vibrations, so it's whatever you are willing to put up with... I would probably go with new regular mounts if I did it again.
