EJ22T injector top color

Post by scoobydoo »

Ive heard from a couple of sources that the injector tops are pink for the turbo EJ22. Can someone please confirm this? the reason i ask is because
my tops are grey. They might have switched them for n/a injectors when i bought the engine

thanks

I don't think they're pink.

What year do you have?

I know for the 90-91 n/a EJ22 the injectors are tanish color. For the 92-94 n/a EJ22 the injectors are red.

I'm not quite sure what color the turbo was. Someone should know.

injector color

Post by legazee »

lets see mine on the 91 turbo are pink which is what most of the turbos came with, my na 90 2.2 are grey......you are prime candidate to spend $ on a worthwhile upgrade..look on nasoic or i club for deals on those. adam at z1 seems to have good prices for legacy friendly upgrades as he has owned a turbo legacy. the wrong injector type makes for good arguments to wife/girlfriend as to why more money needs to be spent on car for upgrades:lol:

This post is making me wonder . . . Are you guys actually taking off your injectors to see the pink or can you see it from just opening up the hood and looking at your injector . . . cause I don't remember seeing pink under there.

Open the hood and the pink stares right at you. It's one of the first things I noticed when checkin the engine out for the first time.. I thought cool just like STi.

I think Red is the STi injector - 440cc
Apparently Pink is the turbo legacy injector - 370cc
If Grey is the n/a ej22 - then it's 280cc?

I have NO IDEA what brown means.

Are yours brown? Maybe you have some other manufacturer injectors in there. I've heard of older side-fed RX-7 Turbo injectors on EJ22T's.

Curious....I can't remember what color my injectors are at the moment...I actually want to say gray...but this I know for a fact, they are 440cc, and I think side feed. But I have a 94 wrx EJ20G (closed deck block) swapped in. So this has always confused me...I often here people talk about STI 440cc injectors...and I thought maybe the new wrx doesn't have injectors that big. But I'm pretty sure my engine is no STI, and I have 440cc injectors...kinda weird right? then I have thought I've people say that either the version 4 sti, which I think was 97 and the last year to have a true closed deck block (i think) had 440cc's, or that the 94 STI, I (don't know what version that is) has 440cc injectors. It seems weird that STI would make injectors that same size as standard wrx injectors, unless STI injectors actually go in standard wrx's. So sometimes it almost makes me wonder what engine I have...as I've heard people say its a wrx "RA" engine...and for a short peroid of time before I bought it I though it was a STI engine...but when I bought it, I was led to believe it was just a plain jane WRX engine, albeit with a closed deck block....ok, I'm rambling, I'll shut up now!

Nevermind. Mine are pink. Kinda hard to tell since the harness covers a majority of the injector, and the harness is grey (after removing A LOT of dirt).

They both flow the same amount or are supposed to, around 270-280 cc/min

The difference between them is in their design. I don't remember the names off the top of my head. But I'll try and remember to scan something in that tells the difference.

In 90-91, the grey injectors were on the autos & I believe the red ones were on the manuals. In 92, I believe they went to the red ones on the autos as well.

I have a set of balanced & blue printed red ones I want to stick on my car. The car just wasn't cooperating well, so I need to wait until I have a garage (which hopefully will be in a 2-3 months) and pull things apart more.

Ok the different types for the 90 between auto and manul trannys are as follows.

The grey tops used on the autos are a pintle nozzle type injector

The black body ones used on the manuals are a ball nozzle type injector.
