has anybody tried installing a wrx turbo back exhaust on their
legacy? i have a 91t-sedan and have been comparing the setups. they
seem to follow the same layout from the muffler to the turbo but not
sure about the angle of the turbo flange..different mfg.s have said
that the up-pipes bolt right in and that the downpipes are the
same,we need brett at mrt to weigh in on this ..from the measurements
i have taken the overall length is almost identical ..a lot of wrx
owners are taking off their new ss exhaust systems and selling
them..any ideas anybody? david

I have been wondering about this for a long time. I posted before and
never got an answer. The exhaust system looks so similar between the
WRX and Legacy.

I know for sure that on the rear muffler one of the hanger brks needs to be removed and re-welded in a different position.... easy job though for a good exhaust shop to do... this is on WRX mufflers up to 2000. Don't know about the current shape.
As for the rest of the system ????? but I presume it may not be long enough as the Liberty is a longer car than the 1994 - 2000 WRX.
cheers, Rod

I do have try to put a set of header, downpipe and midpipe from the
BC5 Legacy turbo to the (GD)WRX and the header won't fits also the
bending of the downpipe won't fits so I don't think the exhaust
system from the WRX will fits our BC Legacy system!!!

Yes, it's not worth the effort unless you can get the wrx exhaust for VERY cheap and have access to free or minimal cost welding plant. The up and down pipes are the same but the centre section and rear mufflers have subtle difference to be a bit of a royal pain. Oh, a ramp is must as well as I spent ages on the ground under the car propping up exhaust parts which is very tiring!

OK, this is for sure, I have a 90 NA that I am in the process of building
up. I purchased a new/used, only 600 miles on it, muffler on ebay to use on
my Legacy, the original one was just about rusted out and for 50 bucks
shipped I figured if it didn't bolt up that I could make it work. First, NO
the US 2002 WRX will not bolt up. The exhaust flange where the rear muffler
section bolts to the middle section is on a different angle on the WRX
exhaust. Along with what Rod has said, the one hanger off the middle of the
pipe is in a different position. The last two hangers off of the actual
muffler will work with our hangers. It is also about 3 inches shorter than
our exhausts. What I plan on doing is just hacking the original muffler
off, using the original section (correct hanger and flange angle) and then
hacking the WRX muffler off and welding it to the original section. Should
work, I have taken pictures of both mufflers side by side and should have
everything in by the end of next week. A plus with the WRX exhaust is that
it is at least 5 pounds lighter, has the dual tips which I love, and will
hopefully give my car a more throaty sound and breath a little better. John
