Suspension and Idle Questions

This group is great, I've learned a sick amount about my BC-BF!

For rallycross purposes, I want to upgrade the suspension on my:
1990 Legacy L Wagon AWD

Will the KYB AGX's fit? The archives seem to indicate "no", but what
if I replace my strut tops?

What's a reasonably-priced spring upgrade that won't lower the car
too much? Do I need these special strut top mounts for these springs?
(I checked the archives but that just made me more confused...
suspension seems to depend on year, drivetrain, and wagon vs sedan)

If it makes things any more confusing, I'd like all these parts to be
able to fit my 2000 Impreza RS on that sad day when the Legacy gives
up the ghost on the rally course.

As a totally seperate question:
Once upon a time I adjusted my idle speed screw because it was
necessary to keep the car from stalling (long story). Now,
everything else is fine except I read in my Haynes and Chilton that
this is a NONO. Does this matter? How do I know how far to turn the
screw to put things right again? (the car idles up to 2000 after
startup but the computer slowly forces it back down to the proper 750
rpm so I can't tell how much to adjust it)

Thanks a lot!

The suspension. Since you have AWD wagon......I think you would be able to get the top mounts from a 92-94 wagon....swap them in the rear, and would be able to use the springs from the 92-94 wagon. Adam just did this, so I'm pretty sure they will physically fit. He can prob confirm this though. I would assume the AGX's for the 92-94 wagon shouldn't have any issues with a 90 wagon.

Springs....whiteline has springs that wouldn't lower the car too much. Some don't care for them. But they are an option, that isn't too expensive.

As far as idle.....I wouldn't worry about it. You'd probably just mess it up more......if it's workin....don't bother fixing it.....it's not broken.

I would just leave the idle the way it is, if you have luck like me
(not much) you will screw it up more. If it really bothers you you
could try cleaning the IAC alittle. That helped my situation.

the agx's work with no problem, the springs for the front are no
problem, however the rear springs on the 90-91's are conical in shape
so you will need whitelines and goodluck on that as ihave beenwaiting
for 4months for a set for our 91turbo sedan. i got some thru mrt last
year for my wagon and that took 5 months! after talking with the
guys over at wrxparts in exeter N.H. i found out that whiteline and
mrt do a lot of just in time mfg. in other words they dont have a lot
of built up inventory, and there are not that many people modding
early legacy's. so they build for the demand. you might have better
luck going to spring shop and see if they can do anything foryou as
far as customizing your stock rears. the fronts are the same perch
diameters from 90-98 so you could interchange some gt springs from
later years. if you want i can dig up the whiteline spring numbers or
you can download the full mrt catalog and get them from that..good
luck....david
