I have some good news and some bad. I recently purchased a WRX
turbo and intercooler off of a 2002 model. Unfortunatly the wrx turbo
does not fit due to clearance problems with the turbo intake running
into the intake manifold. But the intercooler did fit with a few
clever tricks by gary grahn. I should have picks available in a week
or so. I also had the headers and uppipe ceramic coated to keep temps
in the engine bay down.
On a sadder note, during all this installation, I changed my oil
with a valvoline synthetic blend and this oil managed to break loose
some build up on my rear main seal and all the oil drained out of my
car on the way home from work today. To fix this requires dropping
the trans so i figure with 150k miles on the oddometer, might as well
replace it as a measure of preventive maintence. Oh well, shit
happens right.

After 150k of dino oil serving you well, why would you switch to synth? Should ahev left it alone.

The stock WRX turbo can fit, but its a chore that is not worth it...you would need to weld the 90 degree elbow from your stock Legacy turbo (once unbolted fromt he comp. housing) tot he WRX turbo then clock the turbo so the inlet faces the right angle..not worth it, much better off with a 93-96 WRx turbo (TD05)

I will be heading to Asia within 2 months. Since you mentioned TD-05
turbo, what other hardware do I need to get? specific OEM Subaru
Intercooler, hoses, injectors, etc.........

I just got the whole IC and turbo and hardware, brackets from a 1995 Sti Type RA. I figure about 13 psi will be fine for me

Did you need new oil/water pipes to the turbo?

not sure yet, have yet to do it...the turbo and IC will be in my hands this week. I suspect oil and water lines will be the same, but we'll see soon

What kind of clever tricks were performed by Gary Grahn. I'd really
like to know because I have one, but my mechanic doesn't know how to
get it to fit without being totally smashed against the firewall.
