Did I Hit Fuel Cut?!

I took my 91 Sport Sedan for a rip today around the local roads? (the
one I bought from a guy who abandoned it behind his house). It still
needs some work. Anyways I have a gallon of 2 year old premium fuel
still in the tank. On one stretch, from still I pinned it, shifted
from first to second at 6100 RPM and kepted it opened wide open, then
as the revs passed 5000 in second, the engine quickly died down. Its
almost like something told the engine, no no, to much fun and told it
to lower the revs. I then let it slw down and then it ran fine as
usual? I have no mods (yet). Anyone know what this may be?

Thanks,
Mark

It could probably be 1000 different things. Have you done a tune up yet?

You might want to list what repairs if any you've done since buying it.

I've replaced the oil, oil pan, oil filter, and an oil cooler tube.

If you should hit fuel cut for any reason you will probably be well
aware of it. It is sudden just as if someone shut the ignition off.
It does sound like you may have another problem that should be
checked.

It was just that, a sudden stop in powerwith the throttle wide open.
What is fuel cut associated with?

Thanks,
Mark

Sounds like fuel cut, though on an otherwise stock car, it should not come close to happening unles something is amiss (as in sticking or misadjusted wastegate, etc.)

Put a boost gauge in and see how much you are running..stock is in the 7 ish range, fuel cut happens at around 13.5 as I recall (or close to that)

I also did notice some slight pinning. Is fuelcut the phenomenon
where the half throttle is like full? And the pump can't supply
enough fuel and the mixture leans out too much and the engine dies?
Or is it a safety device (electronically controlled) to prevent us
from having too much fun with our engines?

I recon that your knock sensor picked up the pining and through it in limp mode. But it hit like you hit the revlimiter of worse.
