"We see a rapidly emerging segment in the United States for a premium, small car below the Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan..."
Aughhh.. "sport sedan", they actually call a car that... gave me chills.
"It makes a lot of sense to combine our strengths in creating a Saab that can be brought to market quickly."
Yeah, daddy GM said to just rebody & badge an impreza and call it a day...
"Bob Lutz, GM's Vice Chairman for Product Development said: "The Saab and Subaru brands have a special flair. It is a natural fit for them to combine their talents and expertise in bringing the first all-wheel-drive performance car into the Saab family — a car with great dynamic qualities and exhilarating performance."
He later said "I mean really, why develop a whole car for a very unique car brand when you can just bastardize a sweet car like the Impreza?"

The only way they can make a Saab that doesn't suck. This is what scared me when GM bought 20% of Fuji a few years back. I really hate to say I like the looks better...

It's kinda hard to tell from that one pic but I think it looks pretty nice too.
I think the more nice cars brought to the usdm market the merrier personally.

The new Saab 9-2X will be produced in Fuji Heavy Industries' facilities in Japan
that car is more japanese than a legacy!
I hope it has the backwards transmission and the ignition in the floor.
I wonder if their gonna use the 2 litre turbo engine or the 2 litre turbo engine??
Saab has a history in rallying?? A FWD shoe as a rally vehicle??
GM is turning automotive marques into a melting pot. Those 240z's with the 350s were prophetic, man.
Looks sweet, it conquors Saab's main problem with their performance image- FWD

I don't like it. I agree with Brat 100%. This is the one thing I don't like about capitalism. It allows free enterprise to screw up some nice cars!
First of all it's ugly, I'd rather have a bugeye WRX...
Second, I hate Saab anyway. I had the responsibility of helping sell a 91 900S nonturbo once, one look under the hood to see the backwards engine and I
KNEW I would never buy one...
Third, it would probably have Saab's ridiculous maintenance prices, the 91 900S aforementioned had $150 oil changes!!!
Good thing it's only 20%

I've read a lot about this already so this is wgat I know:
It is a straight Impreza wagon in both 2.5TS and WRX trim with Saab-ish front and rear clips. From what I understand, even the glass and some side panels will be the same. Not sure about the interior, but I'll bet there's little changed aside from the obligatory ignition in the center console as they did this as absolutely cheap as possible from the outside. Typical GM. I'll stop before I go on a rant about them.

Yup, WRX engine and drivetrain. I think it looks really good. I'm not saying I'd buy one, but it does look good. We complained for so long about not getting a turbo impreza and now that it's doing so well stateside GM wants to get as much out of it as possible. It'll be interesting to see what the demographic is that buys one. I'll bet the interior is waaay nicer than an impreza's.

Ha ha. I should have included the whole verse... You get 10points for picking that up. They're not worth as much as Laurel points, but if you collect enough you get a seat in the not-so-secret police when I take over the world. The not-so-secret police will be in charge of killing rapists and child molesters and harrassing ricers.

Oh yeah, and the Race of Champions used a pair of 700+ hp Saabs prepared by ProDrive a year or two ago.

The only thing I hate more than saabs are saab owners. They are the biggest pieces of shit made and the uptight piece of shit owners think they are driving something nice like a mercedes or bmw when infact they are driving a glorified GM.
ok rant over.

I've driven a couple Saabs, and I didn't thnink they were bad at all.. The build quality is definitely not GM-like, and the 9-3 turbos are somewhat quick.

My friend had a couple of Saab's. They were all pre-GM though, so I can't really make any comments on their newer vehicles. The Saab's he had were hurting though. It wasn't a turbo, and he drives like an idiot, so who knows. I just know that the new 9-2, WRX-based, looks pretty badass. I'm sure it'll perform well and come with a better interior than the Impreza. Only time will tell.

I think the car looks really good. I just don't like the fact that GM took the Impreza, slapped on a Saab sticker, and both GM and Saab are gonna take the credit for it.

They're only going to take credit for it from the ads. Most of the articles that I've read in car mags give Subaru credit for it.

But when random people see these cars driving around their gonna look at the badging and think wow, thats a cool Saab, whereas in reality its practically all subaru. only the few will know its an imposter

Just another reason to be a Legacy or old-school Subaru person.
